I would like to check the idle set up of the carburettors on my 77 308 and I'm going to buy one of those CO meters (about £60 in England) and use the individual port test pipes.

But what's the opinion for the carb balancing?

Do you need a flow-meter or is a flexible pipe-in-the-ear just as good?

With 2 carbs I've had good experience with a pipe in the ear.

    Thanks in advance
    Richard

Depends on how good of an ear you have...
I have done both methods, but now I almost always use a pair of Synchrometers, and do one carb at a time.

STE Synchrometer for me too (Don't see the upside to not using one -- it's not that much $)

I have used both methods effectively on my GT4, but usually grab my STE Synchrometer first...

Its too bad new exhaust gas analysers are so expensive, and the old ones on Ebay I just don't trust. Besides Gunson's analysers, anyone know of a source for inexpensive (a few hundred dollars, no more than that) multi-gas exhaust analysers?

    Or...

I've read the comments before on Gunson Colourtunes and I think I'm sold on them instead for tuning, but for one last time, are they reliable/consistent as compared to an analysing machine? Worth it instead of dumping big bucks on a analysing machine (I'm thinking so)?

Can anyone comment on the Gunson CO meter?

They're only £60-70 and they CLAIM to be accurate.
