i dont have time to argue with morons...have a good night and enjoy the keg party!
Well, we're really upholding the image of the calm, "classier" Yanks, now. I've noticed that questionable behaviour on the highways tends to follow a curve, topping out on Thursdays. My current hypothesis is that paper pushers who haven't accomplished anything all week are taking it out on everyone else -- trying to feed their egos on road kill. But let's not forget all the positive responses the F-cars get. Cheers, thumbs up, etc. I actually get much worse reactions to my EVO than to my Ferrari. (Must be the wing) ... With one exception: Nobody tries to drag race the EVO from a stop light. (I guess I can thank 2F2F for that.) Of course, the cops are also far more hostile to the ricer. (I guess I can thank 2F2F for that, too.)
It's a tragedy that it happened. Road jealousy is everywhere but not as extereme as this one. It bothers on madness.
Frankly, Gentlemen, you really need to simply allow others to get ahead of you then slow down and allow them to gain as much distance from you as possible. If the other person persists, use the cell phone and call 911 with their tag info, etc. Fairly recently my now ex got caught up (in her POS 5 year old Saturn) dodging on the highway with a truck. No matter how much i asked her to slow down and allow him a few blocks distance ahead of her, she insisted on the back and forth foley. This is INSANITY!!!!!!!! Please, ego has no place to allow for road rage. There are no "winners" as playing the "game" means, IMHO, all participants are... L O S E R S
One thing that people who behave like cretins on public roads don't realise is that you are not as anonymous as you think as most cars are equipped with licenseplates. Here in Sweden, you just send an SMS with the licenseplate in it and about three seconds later you have the name and adress of the registered owner. If you are interested in the phonenumber of the owner, just send the first SMS you recieved to the phonecompany and you'll get an SMS that often includes both home number and the number to his/hers cellphone. I've used this method a few times to deal with tailgaters & slow drivers in the passinglane with great results.
Whats a "SMS"?? Im not sure i like just anyone finding out my name and address. That can work both ways....
You are correct. Davem, I don't know how it is in other countries, but I guess that most countries have unque licenseplates and one of benefits of that is the possibillity to identify vehicles and their owner... Perhaps some countries restrict who can get information from licenseplates, but I think that in most civilized places it's not to difficult for a citizen to get hold of that.
In the US, the government is not permitted to hand out personal information - such as address or phone number informtion - to just anyone. We call it "privacy". If that makes us "uncivilized", then so be it. Also, a large number of vehicles in the US are not being driven by the owner. And it's also illegal, in many States, to make cell phone calls while driving. (I've gotten a headset for incoming calls, but it's still a distraction.) (But then, there was the senate candidate, a couple of years back, that had to cut a phone interview short because he had a traffic accident.)
Where I live, phonenumbers, adresses, the equiviant to social security numbers, and so on, are considered 'pubic information', hence the easy access. I don't want to be rude, but do you have publicly avalible phonebooks in your area?
Here's the real deal, ya'll. I just got back from a work errand, and was called out to race by a Cadillac with straight exhaust, and no air conditioning. The other driver: Am illegal immigrant, from down Mexico way, the car owner, who knows, the safety sticker and tags, long ago expired. Racing in public streets!! Number of federal laws violated in the sentence above, at least six. The best thing when confronted like this, as Steven is pleading above, is to go the other way!!! I slowed down, turned right leaving them trapped in the left lane and took the residential route back to the office! The subliminal message delivered: "See ya...wouldn't wanna be ya!"
It's a long plane ride, bro! She's over there in Sweden, with our new rookie here! SHE can have my numbers, though. SSN, license plate, whatever.....
Allright baby! That last one changed my status!!! "F1 Rookie" indeed..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Now back to the thread topic.... Things are not going so well for the common man over on this side of the pond. If you were in the stock market as a middle class worker, you've been hosed by fradulent management of corporate America. If you are just a little lower on the ladder, your construction or factory job is most likely now performed by an undocumented alien that will work seven days a week for cash, no benefits. So there is a lot of frustration out there, for anyone seen as high rolling thru these strained, war torn times. Not to make apologies for the neanderthals described at the start of this discussion, but I've recently armed up after a sixteen year absence of firearms in my home, because there's folks out there that want what you have, and will take it. They'll be rolling back home in a boxcar, counting the cash, as your relatives put you under for your dirt nap. Speedy"Do you feel lucky....punk?"308 Of course every now and then, the trailer gets locked from outside!!!!
Can anyone post a link to this story??? I've never had much trouble in Dallas, myself. But again, I'd have used reverse and the throttle to shake those guys!!! They'd have thought it was Tom Selleck driving!!!
Power sliding in a SL500? It's hard enough in the SL55, get a life. I've had lots of crap happen only because I'm young and I drive my dads old Lex, some people just don't get it that sometimes the speed limit is there for a reason, even more so in a residential area. When it's no where near houses sure I'll got maybe five or ten above, but it's not worth risking the consequences when in a few months or so I can easily take it to the track and let the car be unleashed with others who enjoy it.
I'm having a hard time making out her plates ;-) If you ever visit Stockholm, I could show you some nice places where there where that picture might have been shot. Can't guarantee that you will meet exactly *that* girl, but I hope that is not an issue.
Thanks for the gracious offer! Apparently there is even an interest in Country Music there?? I know some bands from Austin, Texas that sometimes tour there! Hard to believe.
Well, if you can look up her "'pubic information'". Butt seriously, folk .... Where I live, social security numbers are considered private information, especially with the rise of identity theft. The practice of using SSNs for other identity numbers -- such as driver's licenses -- is being discontinued. Printed phone books are fading out, although online directories are more common. But anyone can opt to have the number "unlisted", and thus not available through phone books, online listings, or dial-up directory services. Cell phone numbers are issued by one of several competing providers, and are typically not listed in the landline phone company's directory -- or anywhere else, unless the cell phone provider has an online directory. This infatuation with privacy may be a uniquely American thing. Remember in the film Charade, where Cary Grant indicates that it's common practice to register in a hotel under an assumed name? (No passports required to register). The use of credit cards has reduced this practice a tad -- but that's a matter of the card issuer's policies, not government regulation. Here, you can legally go by any name you want ... or any number of names -- provided it is not for the purposes of evading law enforcement. It's like "handles" on the Internet. You can use any username here ... unless you're Gary Green trying to get around being banned. Heck, ask your own royalty. As I hear it, the elder princess went to college in the 'States, and managed complete anonymity. (If there had been anything on against that "E!" channel special, I'd have never heard of her, either.) The younger princess went to the UK, and was hounded by the press.
