Just wondered if this is the same the world over. May be a stupid question, porsche is my main marque.

After looking at the latest top marques, there is a 288 GTO for sale for £240k, and a nice looking F40 for £150k.

    Thanks.

It's a question of beauty and rarity. The F40 was a development of the 288, is surely faster, but they made around 1,300 as opposed to c. 300 GTO's (please let me know if I'm wrong, experts), and the curvy 288 is widely regarded as being a little more aesthetically pleasing.
I don't doubt that if the production levels were reversed, the F40 would - with its snarling aggression, racing heritage and apparently brain and tyre-frying stomp - be comparatively even more expensive than the 288GTO actually is. If you see what I mean...

Generally they're fairly close in value - 240K GBP is very topish for a GTO (273 made + this yellow prototype that's floating around for sale for 1M USD - yeah right)

I think 180-200 is more like it. UK F40s seem to be 140-180. So GTOs are somewhat but not alot more expensive.

Rarity/looks vs in most opinions the seminal driver's Ferrari of the last 20 years.

GTO's are overpriced IMO ! They should be worth 250 000$ top !

You forget the beauty factor - in the same way the F40 is purposeful, the GTO is perhaps the best looking F-car of the last 20 years. All the beauty of the 308 with some aggression thrown in "I want one" + 273 cars = high values...

Thanks guys. I do like the looks of the 288 more than the F40. The F40 in question was a yellow 89, near the beginning of production and the 288 was an 84. There is also an 85 for sale.
