Let start a photo thread of the F40 GTE. My favorite 90's racecar. Saw them racing at Spa 4H in 1996. I will scan those pics later. Sadly the McLaren were better and faster. But now we have the 550's and 575's! What is the difference between a F40 LM and a F40 GTE? From the pictures I can only see some additional air slots on top of the front wheel wells. Otherwise they look identical?
Dan, I think it was called the BPR (Bridgestone Potenzia Racing Series) I might be wrong. Someone on this chat would know better. I think it was in the early '90s. It was AWESOME!!!! I don't have any videos of this racing series. I would love to get my hands on complete races!!! If anyone has it please contact me. I think there is videos out of season reviews through Duke videos. (That was a while ago though)
BPR series !! The F40 GTE's were very fast and often set pole but were only able to win one or two races. They had constant reliability problems. I don't rememer the exact differences, but the LM cars had larger restrictors which weren't required in BPR (smaller ones used) and I believe that in BRP trim Benny told me they made over 700 hp. I do remember seeing Benny's GTE next to his LM and the GTE had a bigger wing and front splitter and the gearbox in his GTE was a sequential race gearbox (likely a Hewland box). It's my understanding Benny sold the GTE after it was rebuilt (he had a slight fender bender at the Glen in 01). And yes Duke sells the 95 year in review here in the states. Regards, Jon P. Armen, BPR means Barth-Peter-Ratel , the name of the 3 organizers .. Jurgen Barth worked for Porsche i think.. Stephane ratel is now the organizer of the Super CAR rally Patrick Peter organizes the Tour Auto and the Le Mans classic
Jon; any info on how to contact duke? I'm not finding it on google under various terms. Armen / Andrew: thanks. --Dan
Sorry, but this car is not a GTE Parts from Michelotto and engineering by Cavallino Tuning, Peter van Erp now with Spyker Cars
Jon, So you`re saying the McLaren F1`s were to ones winning? I`v always thought the F40 GTE were faster.
John, the GTE proved fater at several tracks with several pole position but due to lack of factory support and well an old car they had reliability issues.
The F1's cleaned up in BPR and at LeMans. The F40's were indeed quicker at many tracks but they didn't have the driver lineups McLaren had and they were very unreliable. If memory serves me in the three years the F40 competed they won one race in the first season and none thereafter. The F1's won something like 90% of the races. In fact the only cars that really beat the McLaren was the Porsche GT1 but this was at the end of the third season and the GT1 wasn't allowed to score world championship points. It was over 2 seconds per lap quicker but never won the title because the series folded the following season (some say because Porsche entered the series and scarred everyone off). Regards, Jon
