Seeing that the 5-Series is a very ugly vehicle, I don't think I would compare it to the Maserati. I would much rather have the Maserati or an E55 AMG.

That's why I went with the Maserati Spyder GT, Had the M3 and wanted a Roadster style car, needed it to have a V8 and cost under 100 grand and be fairly exotic, Name any other car that would have fit this bill?. BMW needs to get rid of Bangle and give us a V8 Roadster back

S55 or Quattroporte - hmmm. IMO, this falls squarely under the jurisdiction of "Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks".

Now, if Maser were to put the 575M motor in the QP....

For sure. The E55 over the Maser any day of the week. 400hp in the Maser? That's kids stuff.

its easy to add hp by super or turbo charging an engine... it take more technology to get power in a smaller engine with normal aspiration...these engines rev hihger and quicker andsound better...this is
more suited to my style of fun driving...pretending i am the shum-man and keeping the revs high and running quickly thru the 6speed...some prefer lots of torque and just touching the gas pedal and have an auto tranny take over...i prefer more driver involvement...to each hisown... these are all great cars mentioned here andwe all belong to the same community of car lovers!!!!

After the 575 is replaced, I wouldn't be too suprised if they didnt drop then then older design engine into the Maser...save developmental costs for a new engine.

Only thing I ask is to get rid of the belts and get chains when they do.

The chains in the Maserati are definetley a big reason it sounds so great, Add on a Tubi and you have a car that sounds better than many Ferrari's

No vid or audio yet. I'll try to put something on the board this weekend. I'm probably driving it about three times a week, so I'd say about 100-150 miles weekly (not too much).

Long ago, I had a a V8 Quattroporte with Frua styling and loved the concept. It felt a little down on power, but its heart was in the right place. Since seeing the photos of the new one and reading the specs, I have been intrigued enough to consider going for my second Maserati 4-door. Thanks for posting your impressions.

I had a good look at the Q-porte at the LA auto show back in Jan. Impressions: fantastic styling. far more attractive in person than the photos would suggest. I think it is colour sensitive, and the silver they had on the stand was VERY much a stunning car. performance should be excellent, with 400hp. the interior of the car seems very well designed, with top quality materiels and workmanship.

THE REASONS IT WILL FAIL IN THE US: trunk. very small. much smaller than competing products (ie: bmw 7 series, merc E/S class). For such a large car...to have a trunk this small is inexcusable. transmission, the MAIN reason this car doesn't have a chance in this market. EVERY UK car mag has castigated the less than smooth delivery from the F1 style transmission. It is simply not excusable for a car of this price and stature to have such an unsatisfactory drive. It must have a proper 6 or 7 speed automatic transmission. without one, it will remain no more than a niche player.

It is the best time to buy in this market. Unfortunately, this pie is only so large. Someone's going to have a smaller slice. It will be interesting to see.

Although, in this pie, autos aren't competing against autos alone. They compete against boats, homes, paintings, antiques etc. It's up to the automakers to create cars that make us want to buy it, even if we already have six cars.

    Forza,

    Cavallini

    Check out the new Car and Driver;

Maserati Quattroporte wins a comparo test with the E55 AMG and Jag XJR. I haven't read it yet, but am looking forward to it.

O/T, I don't ever recall reading a review where a Renntech prepared car did not failed due to some mechanical failure. They do not rate high in my book.

Its got to be political, There is no reason to pick the Qp over the E 55.
The 55 could pull the Qp to 60 faster than it could do it on its own.
The E 55 is one hot E ROD

Its not all about speed. I for one would prob. choose a QP. I rather like the car. I am going to wait a few years until they hammer the bugs out first.

Sure, the E55 is faster, no doubt. However, once you hit the twisties, the Q-Porte driver will see the E55 fade in his rear view mirror.

Speed and HP, is not why I bought my E55, potential speed and HP is why....I did Inspect the new QP at WWoC a week ago and found it quite appealing, However the overall balance of the side view was not all a hyper sports sedan could be.it was long and awkward.I believe that look will date very quickly. The e55 is the predesessor of many 320's 430's and e 500,s. It has proven itself in ergo's and reliability, and then AMG Put it through the Mill.It is my 2nd e55, I had a 2001 before this.I suspect many will stay loyal to the Amg that suit their needs. I can wait to see how they will put an offering up to meet the new M5.I suggest parties interested test drive Both upon making a decesion. The e 55 is very hard to top.
