Is it crazy to take delivery of an 04 360 coupe in spring/summer if the new 420 is just around the corner. And the question is, how far away is "just around the corner"? What are the rumours? Typically v8 ferrari coupes have lasted for 5-6 models before a refresh, will this happen with the 360? Does it make sense to buy a 1999 360 coupe at a great price over an 04 coupe? Were there any differences to the fit and finish and F1 transmission from 1999 to 2004?

Thanks in advance for any info. you can pass along.

Just from sniffing around and talking to people, my guess is the replacement will be an '06 model coming out late '05. Let's see what happens.

Ferrari UK are taking deposits for replacement of 360 - they said 05 for coupe and 06 for spider

October 05 Paris Auto Show for Coupe introduction as an 06 model. That's what I was told (quite reliably).

In '99, 355 owners enjoyed significant appreciation while 360 fever took hold (and they were still inaccessible). If you recall, 355 Fioranos touched 200K! Perhaps this will occur again when the 420s begin to land here.

So lease a 360 next year, drive it for a year and get a refund!

DL - Remeber Nasdaq was approaching 5,000 in '99. A whole different ballgame. Also, what options did you have then? Now, there is the Gallardo, the Bentley GT, the Ford GT, the Aston Martin (several), the Porsche Gt3, Gt2, Mercedes SL55 etc. Broadly speaking there is a lot more competition.

I would go for a 2000 in spring 2004. That's my plan. I think access to the replacement will be difficult unless you have connections or are prepared to wait. I would rather get a 2000 in 2004 for $135- $140K'ish and have it vs. wait for 2 more years.

Thanks Rodsky but would you rather have a 1999 360 F1 or a 04 360 coupe 6spd that is suppose to be arriving for me in spring? Buying the 1999 saves me close to $50-55K. It seems to me that even buying an 04 at list, there's a lot of depreciation to be felt over the next two years.

I would go for the new coupe at list!

    Some points to consider:

    1. I understand the 1999 F1's are not as good as the new software in the new F1' 04 cars.

    2. I have seen in the Modena that the diffrence from year to year in value is a least $5000, thats 5 years for around $25,000

    3. Warranty for three years on a new car. Value $10,000

    4. If you get a brand new Ferrari from a dealer you would be in a much better place in line for the Modena's replacement. Value$$

    5. The feeling of getting a brand new Ferrari, priceless!!

I do not beleive that you would loose any where close to $50,000!!

Avia1 - If you're buying the 360 at list, then you probably wont save $50-55K by getting a 99. Unless its a Euro or high miles or an undesireable color/combo. Probably closer to $30K in savings. To have a warranty for a while (no big surprises), lower maintenance costs, and a higher resale on a 04, I would go for the new one at list - if it were me. The new model will not be "accessible" for 3 years plus from when you get your 04.

    Just my 0.02.

This depends upon you! Are you looking for a car to drive the living snot out of? or Are you looking for a car that other people think you can drive the living snot out of?

I have exactly the same situation with a car scheduled for build in February, arrival in March 04.

I was also very concerned with all the rumours about the 360 replacement so I spoke to the local Ferrari dealership about any scheduled dates and they concured with the dates already given in this thread which is coupe launch 05 and 06 for spider.

On that basis, I am continuing with getting the new 360 spider and really looking forward to my first Ferrari.

And spyderman is right about the F1. My information is that the early models are no where near as good as the latest model.

So go the new car :)
