For those who need new gas-charged lift support (hood struts) for their 328's (or Fcars for that matter). Check out the website (www.sachsna.com); they are the OEM. Their distributor in NJ is "Parts For Imports" (856)-665-2300.

For 328's, it is Part # SG437002 ($34.46) for the front and #SG237001 ($41.75) for the rear. You'll pay at least $60 per piece if you get it from Ferrari sources. The labels are the same except that no "Ferrari" is imprinted on the former.

I just installed a new one on my 328's front. It is a 5-minute procedure. Just make sure you put something below your workplace as the washers, nuts, and bolts may drop into the radiator compartment and may be difficult to retrieve. And do not overtighten the bolts...guaranteed to break. It is a perfect fit...even though the "main body" of the strut appears to be about 4mm longer.
(One of our fellow fchatter, ShanB, installed new ones on his 348 and reported perfect fit, too).

The rear maybe more difficult to install as the struts are not attached by simple "bolt and nut" mechanism. Has anyone done this? Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ron

My mechanic sold me a oem "Ferrari" hood strut for my 328 front hood for $31...so not sure where the $60 comes from, maybe FNA dealers? I got mine from Alfa of Tacoma, in Tacoma, WA. 253.572.2532

Carlo, the master technician and owner, recommends replacement of all 308's and early 328's to the gas strut to prevent bending of the hood. Some here have worried that based on the strength/resistance of the gas strut, there is still risk of bending the hood, but I seriously doubt that is the case...no problems for me in the past year since the change over.

So how did you guys remove the "bolt and nut" mechanism
to install the new rear struts?

I couldn't edit or add to my post above.

The pins (part # 60599500) and clips (#11087876) that mount
the rear struts...are they reusable? (It is NOT THE SAME bolt and nut
that is used to mount the front strut.) Anyone?

    Thnx.
