Learned today that DC will ticket Maryland folks for not having a front tag. Guess how I learned that? Hint: cost me $50! Be careful.

Wonder if I can just ignore it ... probably much, much easier just to pay it.

I'm never putting a front tag on my car. Happy to help out the DC government.

OK, so one has to inquire....why would you drive your car into the district? There are potholes there to swallow your car, diplomats who don't know how to drive and don't care what they hit, nasty-ass traffic cops and meter maids, etc.

Maybe you were aiming for politicians and ran into a cop instead?

I don't have a front plate either (and no place to put it) and am waiting for a nice friendly Virginia Peace Officer to point out the missing plate (which I carry in the car with me just to prove I have it) and hand me a similar ticket. I'm assuming I can just send the ticket to you for payment, right?

The District? You were REALLY driving your car in the DISTRICT? I won't take my 1999 Durango (ex-Porsche race car tow vehicle) into the District, let alone the F-car.

Hey Wil...this is Bob...which car were you driving? Did they get you for anything else or just the tag? Was a little fast driving involved? Just curious...or was the Police Officer just being ornry!

Bob: I abbreviated the facts a bit. My wife took our Maserati coupe on an errand in Virginia, then drove into DC. The car was parked on the 4300 block of 50th street NW - wasn't there very long. Wife is VERY displeased, as she seems to draw these tickets, this is her second - she has made it very clear that from now on the Maserati will have a front license plate.

Maybe I'll just throw the ticket away - what the heck, not my car ....

Kevin: I always drive the Stradale on my DC drug runs, keep it in race mode and my hand over the launch control button when I stop to haggle, just in case.

    d. c. is like being in a 3rd world country... you have no rights and the roads are horrendous!!! i have ruined 2 wheels and tires on pot holes in gt and downtown....lucky these were cheap everyday cars... i would hav eot scout any route before the ferarri goes into dc.... there is no plac e for a front tag in the ferrari 360s anyway..so the police can take a hike!!!!

i've gotten one "no front plate" ticket...but I just consider it an appearance fee. I'll also never put a front plate on...looks cleaner.

If you dont pay a parking tickect in DC they will double the fine after 30 days. If you dont pay again they boot your car and send it to your credit report.

I live in DC and deal with this stuff all the time. MUCH MUCH easier to pay it.

How can the D.C. police ticket a Maryland driver/car for a Maryland front plate violation? Better yet, why? Oh, the money......maybe that's it.

Just got a warning here, because I had the plate handy.

Expired wallet insurance card gave him something to chew on.

The missing tag is $86.00 in Houston.

Driving away, after a chat, I looked and realized BOTH plates expired 4/30!

I quietly drove to the tax office next!! LOL!

Antony gets tickets because he parks on the sidewalk instead of the street. That will dramatically affect the resulting fines.

DC roads are a serious mess, I drove my old 308 down here a few times...got a ticket for running a yellow.

I've yet to take the TR, and never attempted bringing the Countach, but my recommendations if you must be down here are:

    1) 3rd Street Tunnel off of 395 towards New York Ave. Long...prob 1/2 mile, 4 lanes+...nice sounds.

    2) Connecticut Ave tunnel under Dupont Circle...speed limit 25, I've hit 100mph before braking at the end of the North section from a *standing* start in in the southern section in the old Stang. Sounded like Daytona 500 practice too... :)

    3) Whitehurst Freeway-great for scheduled matchups...swap the money at the traffic light under the Key Bridge, lower profile.

    4) Rock Creek Parkway/Beach Drive. The best road in DC, basically unuseable at anytime except weekday afternoons and very early morning.

    BTW-This is what I've "heard", I don't break the law. :)
