For Sunday at PB, general admission or "club d'elegance"? For Friday, Concorso or Quail? I'll have my wife (car person) and teenage daughter (clothes and hair person) with me, and I'd like to attend an interesting auction. Opinions? Thanks, Will
Club Concorso get high price tickets as well. Register with auction houses now. Will you be at FCA events?
Perfect, thank you. I haven't decided whether to attend the FCA events. I have raced at Laguna Seca and love the idea of running the Stradale there, but wife wants to stay at Half Moon Bay, and wife and daughter love SF ... perhaps you have ideas for that negotiation? Cheers, Will
As this is the big one (40th) I think the FCA will be very special. My wife and daughter will be there as well. GET THEM THEIR OWN RENTAL CAR. Coming by at 2pm and leaving at 4pm will make them a lot happier than making them get there at 6am to watch me unload my P4...
Napolis has a good suggestion there. The area has quite a few attractions for gearhead companions or offspring. There are museums, a great acquarium (near a brilliant park), and plenty of shopping. Here is info on the fish, not to be missed, adults included: http://www.mbayaq.org/ Agenda? I usually see all the pre-auction displays, they are usually free to preview, or there is a nominal fee. Once you have experienced a major auction, it is kind of boring to spectate without a paddle. I signed up for Concorso (exhibiting) and will be attending a few private events. I did not sign up for any of the FCA stuff. My $975 will be spent on off-peak drivers schools or repairs. I might do Pebble again, as I have skipped it last 3-4 years. Wives usually enjoy people watching at that one and mine got to meet Seinfeld and Leno a few years back. Watch for a silver GTE, a pretty blond, and 2 charming kids. Hope everyone can make it. thx luke
I decided on General... the Club d'Elegance benefits didn't seem worth a lot to me (or most any non-exhibitor). As a Ferraristi, definitely the Concorso Italiano. I went for the Corral tickets... seems like the best way to go if you have a nice new Ferrari. If you're a big vintage racecar fan, then the Quail might be preferable. It does sound cool... if it was a different day, I'd do both.
I have to decide whether to bring my Stradale. Brian, are you bringing yours? I probably cannot stay for the Weds & Thurs track days. Could do the Monday school, but "school" puts me off a bit - not that I don't have a lot to learn, but I have current racing licenses and am past the days when noodling along hoping for a passing signal was fun. Anyone know about the rally? I'm thinking I could take my daughter along, she might enjoy it. I have never participated in a rally. Thanks again for all of the advice.
She might like the rally. Tues. is the FCA Concors at Quail. Thurs before at 1pm the Pebble cars, (those that can make it) tour and wind up in Carmel for a few hours. Luguna is fun on sat. There's plenty to do and a lot of kids all over. FCA dinner monday night at the Aquarium.
Yes, definitely. It'll be parked somewhere in Carmel at lunch when the PB cars come through. It'll be parked in the Ferrari Corral at the Concorso Italiano on Friday... until mid-afternoon, when I'll head out into the California wine country or coastlines. Similarly, assuming I finish up with MH on Sat and PBC Sun by mid-afternoon, I'll do more exploring of the countryside in the Stradale. I have never driven Laguna Seca, so I plan to do the school on Mon and the track days on Wed and Thurs. Hopefully I can hop rides with others between track sessions as well... I'd love to experience a bunch of different Ferraris on the track. That sounds like a good idea... both of you experiencing a rally together should be a good bonding event. I wish the rally was a different day than the track school... I'd love to do both.
Brian- I am by no means an expert on Laguna Seca but I did do the Skip Barber 3 day race school there... and have also had three trackdays there on top of that. I should be there for the two track days during FCA2004 since I've signed up already. I'd love to go for the first "school" day but that stretches my schedule past the breaking point. If you need any advice on how to drive it the Skip Barber way around, I can be of help... Cheers!
For everyone getting FCA tickets, remember, if one person gets the F1 or F2 package, then the spouse only needs the FJ at $300 cheaper. From looking at the list it seems many are making the mistake of paying extra. I don't think they clarified this until later... http://www.fca2004.com/packing.html Jennie and I have all our tickets purchased. CI, Historics, PB, and FCA.
No? "For minors under the age of 18... Includes dinner not lunches" Jenny is cute but I'm not sure about the under 18 part and if how she'll feel about lunch from the cart while you sit in the tent...
Whoa, where are you reading that? I didn't see anything in what I read that distinguished those under 18 or excluded lunches... just required that you were with a F1 or F2 participant.
Go to their web site. (FCA) click on housing/registration. Note FJ. Lunch is excluded by non inclusion. Under 18 is clearly stated. I called and asked about lunches. They told me F1&F2 get lunch in tent. FJ get "a la carte"
I didn't see anything about 18, but it might be in there somewhere. Are you sure you're talking about the FCA event and not Pebble or one of the others? Here's what I found, the 2nd one was from the organizer himself...
CLICK ON FORM. " Registration / Housing Form" It's there quite clearly: "Under 18" and although it includes dinner it don't include lunch.
Tom told me it includes everything but the track, so I emailed him back to confirm. I'll let you know when I hear back. Worse case Jennie gets everything for FJ because that's what they told ME.
I've just been using the actual event site at www.fca2004.com. Yes, that form conflicts what I've been told and the www.fca2004.com site says. That's what they get for trying to manage registrations in two places. Since www.fca2004.com doesn't have a single thing about it being 18 and they specifically told me they were looking at the FJ package to bump up the revenue for just the spectators, then I'm almost certain FJ is for anyone. However, the big question is if the FJ can get lunch if with a F1/F2. I know it includes the awards banquet dinner. Anyway, without lunch it's still not worth a F2. Those would be $100+ lunches.
It depends. She's standing on the line at the hot dog cart while you're sitting in the tent with moi. I could see that costing you...
LOL. Yeah, but for $100+ I'd skip lunch with you (no offense, James... I'd love to eat lunch with you) and have a nice lunch elsewhere! I can always try to catch you at dinner. I'll be sure to bring the FCA News Bulletin... there is no exception to the "includes admittance as a spectator to all day events" clause... the intent of that form seems to be clearly that the FJr guest gets to tag along with their F1 or F2 registrant. Not being able to eat... just look at lunch (which is clearly a "day event")... would just be ludicrous. Unless they can find the exception on some of the printed materials in the Bulletin, I don't think they'll be kicking my FJr cohort out.
Okay, that form does have the "under 18" clause... but still nothing about not getting lunches. Where do you see that? Note that given not everybody uses the web... and given that the web can be changed at any time... the form printed in the Bulletin and sent to everybody is going to override. And it clearly just says: "For guests attending the event with an F1 or F2 registrant, ..." So, I'm confident that the under 18 clause won't be enforced.
