Pffffffffft! They don't know how lucky they are that did not melt, pop or otherwise burn them and blow that tin door off. Too bad they don't make one of those out of stainless steel, brass and with a saftey check valve.
This brings up the subject of cheap weaponry. This guy just built a pretty effective flame thrower for a few bucks, and it reminds me of the potato gun my son built. When he was about 15 he asked me to come up to his second story bedroom. He had built a potato gun out of pvc pipe and a Coleman lantern ignitor. The ignition chamber is charged with a spray of White Rain hairspray (read the ingredients). He inserted a baseball sized potato down the barrel aimed it out his window and twisted the ignitor. With a loud "wump" and two feet of blue flame the potato shot across the yard, across the street, across the neighbors yard and absolutely disintegrated when it hit the tree he was aiming at. He then said "if you really want to do some damage, you just load the potato with drywall screws". Sh*%! We then had a discussion about the weapon, and he informed me he had researched the law and it was currently not considered a weapon and was legal to own. Of course household regulation came in to force right away. So, for under $50 you can build a potato gun that would kill someone at close range, and throw in a flame thrower for the hell of it.
In Texas at least, these are NOT legal; However I know of several people who built and use them. Good clean fun-- That is until you also run into someone who also build his own dynamite. Take 1/2 stick of dynamite (M500) add rocket-like slats on the back; drill hole in front and insert shotgun primer cap, and attach paper nose cone with nail pointing at the primer. Use thin wedge of spud to seal spud-gun barrel. Presto, instant bazooka. Good fun, not so clean. Actual cost is closer to $10 is you know what you are doing.
Look at this guy's site. There's always someone that takes things to the next leve: "Home of the world's most advanced hand held laser-guided bolt-action aluminum SP9004 potato rifle. " http://www.spudtech.com/default.asp
This thing launches 1 1/4 pounds of water almost a 1/4 mile. Holy Sh&*! "While the total range with a full 20 oz. soda bottle is not overly impressive, (only about 300 - 400 yards @ 15 deg. of elevation) it is devistatingly powerful at closer ranges."
Yea, but this is better. http://www.biggerhammer.net/videos/birdman_nuke50_700k.asf Thanks or the link TestShootCom
What i particularly liked about the SuperSoaker clip was the fact that the kid (who bears a remarkable resemblance to a young Michael Moore) is conducting tests of a flame thrower indoors, next to the family car. At least he could have worn goggles, right?
a potato gun seems like one of those things all boys have built. i know me and my best bud built one when we were about 16. it was the coolest thing in the world. we had interchangable barrels so we could shoot different size projectiles, everything from potatos, to AA batteries (pretty dangerous, broke one of those cinder blocks in half), and some modified arrows (went straight through a cone). we had a huge compression chamber that we pressurised with a auto air compressor. i don't know where that is now, but we built that for about $20.
actually on biggerhammer you need to check out the choppped down SASR video. that sgt is a friend of a friend,
There really stupid for doing it inside there house close to other automobiles they should have dont it on cement or other instead of there garage.
