Thought I'd post this up here in case anyone is interested. This is a large course, and is much faster and longer than a typical 1 minute autocross course. Plus, you get 8 runs!

Drivers - Well, it's finally time for another North Texas S2000 Autocross. Seems like it's been too long since our season opener back in February. At any rate, we have a new timing display to show-off and are looking forward to May 23rd. Please note this is a Sunday event.

    ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

IMPORTANT: Pre-registration is required and now open here
    http://www.dlbracing.com/nts2koc/
(www.dlbracing.com/nts2koc/). If you paid for the entire year at the first event and plan on attending you DO need to pre-register. This is the only way we can limit the attendance at our events and provide everyone w/ 8 runs. Thanks.

    What: NTS2KOC's 2004 Championship Autocross, #2 of 5

    When: Sunday, May 23rd

Where: Mineral Wells airport. (Click here: vista.pca.org/mav/Autocross/graphics/MineralRingMap.gif for a map.)

Registration: Pre-registration is required and will be limited to 50 drivers. First-come, first-served.

Cost: $30 base price. $5 discount for 2004 NTS2KOC club membership. Club membership forms will be available at the tent and the cost for one year is $35.

    Schedule:
    6:30am - Course Setup
    7:30-9:30am - Registration & Car Prep/Tech
    9:30am - Driver's Meeting
    9:45am - Parade Lap
    10:00am - Session Begins
    Noon-1:00pm - Break for Lunch
    1:00pm - Session Begins
TBD - Fun Runs (Time Permitting)
Cleanup - Please let an event coordinator know if you cannot stay to help out.

Lunch: There will be a break for lunch. Subway and McDonalds are nearby if you do not want to bring your own. Many times, lunch is also available on site for $5.

Safety: Check your car; make sure it's in excellent condition before arriving at the event. We will have self-tech forms for you to fill out and sign at the event. If you are unable to complete the form we will have a safety tech available to assist you. All forms will be reviewed and signed by the safety tech. You'll need a helmet. Have fun but keep cool - we don't want to become personas non gratas at the site. Especially, we don't want any damage to your car or yourself.

Points: The club will award points during each of the five autocrosses with a final championship being awarded at the end of the season. The cars will be divided into two classes to provide reasonable competition. The default classes are S2000 Street, S2000 Race, Miata Street, Miata Race, Other (Open), and Other R (Open R). (The only differentiation being R-compound tire choice.)

Classification of other models will be based on attendance. A quota of at least five of a particular model is required for points to be awarded at an event. Tire choice will only be a factor if there are five each of street and race tired cars. In order for a championship to be awarded, at least 75% of the events need to meet the quota.

All drivers in attendance will receive at least one point. The points scale will be 9, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1... At the end of the year the top three point's positions in each class will each receive a trophy. The best four out of five finishes for each participant will be used to determine the championship.

Format: The day will be divided into four sessions. If you are not driving a particular session, you will be working that session. Work categories are timing/scoring, grid, and corner working. The number of participants will determine the exact nature and amount of the run sessions. We are planning on eight runs for each driver. Times will be presented to each driver as they exit the course and on a small label. Times will also be posted on a board at the timing tent. For those with the experience and desire, you can work as a driving instructor instead of on a corner.

Numbers: Each car will need a unique number, 8" high. You can request a number on a first-come, first served basis. Due to the points championship, this number will be yours for the entire season. If you already have a number from the first event, use that one again. Please plan to bring your own. They need to be high contrast magnetics or adhesive vinyls and displayed clearly on both doors. (Tape will work too, by the way.) Pro Tape www.protapesigns.com/racinggraphics.html is one of the places you can go for numbers.

Passengers: Our insurance gives us the option of allowing passengers during runs. It's a great deal of fun, so feel free to bring somebody who'd like a thrill ride, or jump in somebody faster's car for some instruction. (If they're feeling generous, of course!) Sorry, no minors.

Instructors: Experienced drivers will be able to sign up as instructors as their work assignment. Novices new to autocrossing are encouraged to make use of this valuable help.

Fun runs: Depending on the time and how everybody feels, we might have additional fun-runs after then end of the official sessions.

Cleanup: Please, be nice and stick around to help us clean up the site when the day is done. It makes thing go so much easier.

Disclaimer: Any of the above could change at any time without any notice.

Haven't decided yet. I very well might. I'm not going to compete, only for fun. I'm hoping to lend a hand with someone else's car that is competing by giving them some cheating bastard tricks. =)

Note that its a fairly gravelly surface out there... your car will get a bit pelted with the hot tires picking up the cruft. I prefer TMS because of that.

That's cool!! I wish all the clubs would do that... more runs!!

The latter sounds good... great to see a club that encourages riding along. But wait, if you are either driving or working each session, when do you ever do the "riding" part???

Extra cool! 8 runs plus more! And ride-alongs (maybe). If only this wasn't at the Mineralring, I'd be there!!

It wasn't such a gravelly surface as some here described, In fact I had alot of grip. The Mineral Wells group is indeed a blast to run with. Brian, are going to bring your 360CS to the TMS SCCA event?

Oh, yeah... as long as they keep out of where the weeds are growing through the pavement, the grip is great... its not THAT gravelly. But did your paint survive unscathed?

I just don't want someone to get a bad taste in there mouth from autocrossing because their first event was at MWells and they got some nicks in their paint from the unclean surface.

Not sure yet, but thinking about it... thinking hard. ;)
