Tonight they're looking for 308's. Is anyone watching this?
i watched it. Had Mc Speed's black with BLING BLING gold plated emblems. It was made in March 1985 and was a US version. G-d those US bumpers looked like crap hanging out off the car for what seemed like a mile. They were also trying to buy some guy in Atlanta old Bertone 308. The guy selling it wanted 30, the B.Jacksons guys are trying to hose him at $18k (car also had recent mjr service).
I've always thought the GT4's were had Dino badges, not Ferrari badges. It also had QV rims with Boxer trim. These are not really that rare of a car, the Georgia team didn't seem to care that much for Ferraris at all. I did know a red 1975 with cloth interior that could bring about $12,000 but has rust & needs work.
I really dont care much for the premise of the show. 1. Chisel a car from the prev owner for pennies on the dollar. 2. Perform minor fluff work as cheaply as possible. 3. Gouge some fool @ Barrett's auction. True this is a general tenet of daily business, but does this appeal to any true car enthusiast?
The rims aren't right, but the later (post 76?) GT4s were badged as a Ferrari. The boxer trim was an available option.
Weak show good concept. Attractive host but that ads nothing to the show but makes it seem cheap and boyish. As if I cant see a car is good or bad with some weak female host to guide me. Best part is profiles of cars by Craig. Very good info on some models I like. Overall for Speed TV I say this; Weak show...NEXT!
I totally concur with Greg G....they buy as cheap as possible, fluff the car up, and sell for as much as possible. Wouldn't it be something if the auction bidders somehow heard how much was paid for the vehicle in the first place. I think the BEST car program is Dream Car Garage. It's the most informative and doesn't insult your intelligence. I really like the testing of the modern dream cars and the classic dream cars. I wish speedtv would show this program more frequently, as I miss it most of the time. The worst car program is ridin with funkmaster flex. I can't stand the way they yell at you. And their use of the english language makes it appear that they never finished grade school. But hey they are all rich and I'm a nothing....so what do I know?
i agree, andthe team atlanta really werent ferrari fans.... what a bunch of red necks!!! hearing that fat slob say ferrari with a southern accent was right out of the beverly hillbillies!!!!
I agree with Greg, well said. It's typical Craig Jackson. The show is second rate at best, a lot of hype but little substance; and the premise of the show is let's see if we can use one car to screw two unlucky saps. BTW, did you get a look at that one guy from "Team Atlanta" with the spiked "Chia Pet" hair? Good lord!
Not just Barrett-Jackson but autions in general. Egos get going and the bids go higher than value. Same in real estate sometimes too.
I agree that parts of the show are weak but after speaking to several people who have been involved with the atlanta team, it seems to be because Speed Channel is trying to make twenty something episodes of the show so they have to stretch it out. I have seen the collections of three of the people from the atlanta teams and they will take your breath away. One has ~70-100 old american cars from the 30's to 70's. He is a very interesting guy to talk to. The guy with the eloquently put "chia pet hair" is one of the coolest guys I have ever met. He is a Ferrari nut. Last time I saw him he had 6 Ferraris at his house along with a 930 slantnose, a 300sl, a viper, and a crazy modified mini cooper. He owns a racing team and several businesses. They are all great guys but the show portrays them differently than they actually are. Don't judge based on the show.
They all might be great guys but the concept of the show is just plain wrong. I can not believe that Jackson would put his name under that! He must have been blinded with $$$ when he signed that contract. 20 shows...I got sick after I could not get closure if the Atlanta guys bought that 308GT4.
Ed, you know, I heard that the spiked hair guy does have a nice collection of Ferraris. He is probably a real nice guy. But you're right, the show portrays them in an unflattering way. That's too bad.
Dumb - what short-term "thinker" rubber-stamped this? Disdain for this self-promoting, unintentionally negative publicity will result in backlash.
That show sucks. I'm from the south, and I sure as hell don't speak like that. I have great respect for all cars... I couldn't try to lowball someone like that just to make a buck on some stupid low-rate show. MM
Terrible show! The guys all come off as a-holes (yes, I realize the editing could be the reason for this) and I wouldn't buy a car from any of them. Especially Craig. They hype stuff out of all proportion. He once did a bit on a mid-60's Porsche 356 Cabriolet. Started off saying the cars are not worth that much and went on to say that the example he was showing was worth about $85K. $85K for a 356 Cab? What planet is he from?? Dream Car Garage, Classic Car Restoration (these two seem to be related), 2 Guys Garage, etc all much better.
Anybody know why the Mini was disqualified? They said it had to do with the language used in the sale contract and left it at that? Thanks guys!
The last show with the disqualification was stupid. I feel sorry for all the guys on the show because they look like some really nice car guys. Jackson as always comes off like a slime car salesman. I think the show did more harm than good. My wife and I have always wanted to attend the big January Scottsdale event...but after seeing the show and noticing the auction seems to have turned into a hot rod auction (at least on TV) I think we will pass. If the puprose of the show was to show us how to get taken at the auction...then it was a success! But really, if it got cancelled, I would not miss it.
Well, I watched every show. All I can say is, I'll never attend a B-J auction (do they sell anything but muscle cars and street rods now?). And I sure would like to take Darla Hahn for a ride.... Jack
I went to the barrett-jackson auction last year in scottsdale and all it felt like was a huge muscle car and hot rod show. The amount of other stuff was few and far between compared to everything else. We did end up buying a nice 1948 chrysler town and country convert. though. But, i agree this show sucks. Put dream car garage on 24/7 Erik
