I will be doing another track event at the end of may. I last did an oil change about 1500 miles ago. Do I change the oil: a) before the event only b) after the event c) before and after the event d) Never change the oil, keep the car original Dom
I generally change oil BETWEEN events. Agruments for before: new clean oil with fresh additive package. Arguments for after: scorched oil and worn additive package. If you only have 1000 miles or so on the oil, run the track event and then change the oil. If you have more than 3000 miles on the oil, change first then again after; as the track day will likely consume the additive package of the oil, and leave you with less protection than a Ferrari deserves.
I change oil AND brake fluid before and after. I use a different oil for the street then I do for the track so I have to swap it both times anyway. I go ahead bleed the system again while the car is up. It only takes an extra 10 min (not a total flush, just enough to get fresh fluid down in the calipers).
I will second Hubert's sentiment here...and also agree with Dr. Tommy that it makes sense to bleed the calipers either right before or right after each event as well.
I agree with Tommy. Use a different oil for the track - use a racing oil, then a none racing oil for daily use. Redline has good choices for both. I would use the Redline 30 wt race oil (it has properties of a 10W-30 SAE oil), then change to their 5W-20 for around town use, a great combination. aehaas
