Probably a stupid question as I am not familiar with car racing much, but why does Ferrari never race at the Indy 500? Is Ferrari's sole commitment to Formula 1? Any thoughts or ideas on this? What could Schumacher do at the 500 if Ferrari prepared a car?

Ferrari did race for years at the Indy 500 back in the 1950s I believe. In fact, I think it was then part of the F1 World Championship.

During Ford's ill-fated attempt to buy Ferrari, Enzo vowed; "A Ferrari will never race at Indianapolis".
    Maybe this is the reason.......

Ferrari did build a prototype back in the late 1980's but it never ran.

Ferrari does not have an engine that meets IRL specs. Wrong displacement, wrong piston count, wrong valve actuation mechanism, wrong fuel, wrong ECUs, wrong transmission technology, wrong clutch technology. Why would Ferrari want to make a 600 HP V8 when it can make a 900 HP v10 of the same displacement? Why would IRL allow an engine of this capability of comming in a ruining a perfectly boring series?

Well said. Indy is a totally different format for both engine and car. It would be very expensive to develope a car for one race.

It would be interesting to see the crush of tifosi in full victory mode (after we win) sipping Moet and nibbling Gruyere next to the swarm of mullets guzzling Bud eating nachos talking about their big block Chevy could kick out butts.

Simply we are like Frasier, they are Jackass. Both are entertaining on entirely different wavelengths, but you could never combine them.

In 1952 Ascari qualified 1 of the three factory Ferrari's brought to the race. Started 19th and finished 31st after a spin in turn 4, 40 laps from the end. The other two cars did not make the race. The 500 was part of the World Championship from 1950-59.
