the lights work fine but they are stuck in down retracted position. Seen a thread on it a while back.

Have you tried operating the headlamp motors manually? If you open the bonnet and identify the headlamp-cover motors, there is a circular knob on the top of the rubber-covered cylinders and if you turn this clockwise, the headlamps will then raise themselves manually.

This will then help you establish whether the problem is electrical (see my recent post - it probably is) or mechanical, and you will at least have some light on the road! As they have both stopped together, it's most likely to be electrical. Check whether they are receiving current, then check the fuse box to see whether the fuse is OK. Check also the operation of the column stalk at the steering wheel as this may have a poor connection, but I would suggest you start at the fuse box.

    Hope this helps.

I had the very same problem on my '83 Mondial (lights on - no popup), turned out i had a blown fuse. The same fuse works the engine bay bonnet so check to see if that works.

    regards, Paul

Is fuse 6 blown? Does your fuel cap lid open electrically?

I don't know if this is the right diagram (there are lots of Mondial variations).

One more thing to be careful of, if there's power going to the operating motors on the headlights. Twisting the knob on top of the lights can make them raise unexpectedly, I think you could lose a finger that way, lol.

@im4542 Since you've requested a fuse diagram on a 20 year old thread about headlight motors, can we assume you have the same issue?
