Does anybody know the story on this car? With only 166 miles, it will obviously need some TLC to get going again, but I watched Reggie Jackson turn down around $380k (I think) for his F40 at Barrert Jackson. I thought that these are supposed to be $350K cars? Is this an "investment" that someone is finally dumping?

    I don't know abt $350K, but @ $230K "reserve met" seems a bargain.

Why, 4 days & 12 hrs. gives me plenty of time to win the Lotto and the auction and hire a Mechanic to completely rebuild almost everything over the next 6 months.

Same guys are auctioning a Jaguar XJ220 & bidding is much lower, thus far. For Speed Freaks, top speed's 217.

XJ220 reserve not met - who knows what they actually want for it. Elsewhere, someone is selling a silver XJ220 and they want $215,000 - which I still think is a bargain. Too bad the Turbos take away all the engine noise.

if this car really went for 230k$ then its a ****ing bargain ! Thats the price of a "high" mileage F40 in europe ! ( 20/40 000 kms )

What is wrong ? Plus Newport is really a bargain dealer !

This car has not gone for $235K yet. There are still 4 days left on the auction. It will go for a lot more.

I think I'd rather have one with a lot more miles on it, you'd probably spend less on it in maintenance.

Wow, that car has been at Newport for a while - I have seen it several times - Great looking car. I believe the place has gone through an ownership change in the last year - There seems to be more Chevy's and such on the showroom floor - Maybe they are trying to make more room for them & get rid of some sitting inventory. The exterior looks great, of course I can't speak for the mechanics.

Yes, I know the story on this car...
It was owned by a man that used the car as a paper weight.
The car was only started and moved when he wanted to read one of the original love letters that Enzo Ferrari had written to his wife back when they were dating, that were kept safe under the tires of this F40 paper weight...

    No I have no clue...
But I can tell you that some people have more money than sense,
This F40 was driven an average of 12.7 miles a year.
    What a Waste!

so what is the going price on an F40 these days? I think Reggie Jackson turned down 300,000 for his not the 380,000 but I can be totally wrong there.

Dunno if its the same car, but there was one in Jersey several years ago with 60-80 miles on the clock, had been installed in a room where it sat for years until the owner went BK; there was a news article about the need to tear down an outside wall of the building to remove the car. It was at Algar, and sold to one of their customers who, as i recall made it roadworthy, but put few additional miles on the car before he disposed of it.

This car has been listed in the FML for several months. It originally came on the market with a asking price of $450k. Don't know what crack they were smoking back then considering excellent condition cars are going between 290k-340k but I'm sure the low mileage is the primary factor.

For what its worth, in England F40's seem to be selling for the equivilant of $210k-$250k, don't know why its $100k more in the US

I lived in the UK for three years, and I can shift with my left hand very well. Are there any issues importing a RHD Ferrari into the US?

    That would be a blast.

I go cycling past there almost everyday. I was thinking about getting a condo across the street at the Balboa Bay Club. I usually get my 550 detailed right next door.

It does seem pricey, go over to Superior ave in Costa Mesa and see the 45, 50, 356, and others on the showroom floor. Who's collection? Jim Mangione? Tony Nicosia? Other?

    Will do 'recon' tomorrow boys!!!

Ps, if you are from Newport Autosport, You will undountledly have seen me in my West Point cycling jersey with ARMY down the spine. Good school, good taste I always say. White bike, wheels shaped like an 'X'

Ive seen the car SEVERAL times at Newport Autosport...probably almost hit Testshoot while driving down there too :) Some of the bikers in Newport Beach are insane and cut across traffic, ride in the lanes themselves, and so on.

About the car though, it looks stunning, but has a few small paint chips around the body that you cant see from photographs. I sat in the interior and its spotless. The big thing is though, it onlyh has 166 miles and no service since new as far as I was told. I would not buy this car for the life of me. Unless you want an F40 to show off at a concours and trailer everywhere, dont buy this car.

I am by no means insane. Clinically speaking. I actually ride conservatively here. Cali drivers are oblivious to anything but themselves, so I am overly cautious. I have had only one real accident with a moving vehicle and thast was a motorcycle in the Alpes D'Huez because I fell into the road around a blind turn.

So it is gone??? Hmm.. I will still see the dealer stock, they have 360s comin' out the wazoo.

Sorry the auction has ended boys!

Please correct me if I'm mistaken... bur wasn't one of the principals of Newport Auto posting on this forum. Specifically, he was showing his F40 turbo'd 288 several weeks ago.

This sounds like a gimmick to get attention to their site and business. The car would never be offered at $225k with no reserve. I think it would be worth $275k even if you spent more to fix the rust in the mechanics.

Have you heard one through open exhaust? Jaguar is about quiet power, the supercar is no exception. A 3.5L engine is a 3.5L engine, with the crank angle and design, put it on straight pipes and it will scream. It won't be a deep yowl like a V12, but it will make some noise. Believe me.

There are a couple of us in So Cal that know where they can be maintained, one of which is my specialist out of Sherman Oaks, been in the specialist biz for 30+ years.

If I could, I'd be the highest bidder :)

I met up with Armen recently and he showed me his awesome F40 turbo'd 288GTO (Regretably it rained, next time he promised me a ride, I'm gonna hold him to it ;) Forgive me if I'm talking out of turn, but I belive he no longer owns Newport Autosport. I told him about the new board, he may come on or may not. Said the new format is more than a little bit of a turn off in it's over-complexity... or maybe I said that, I forget.

Anyway, damn nice guy, with an awesome 512BB and 288GTO. He drives 'em too.

Word on the F40 is it's the new owner's car, and hasn't had much attention of any kind. I've seen it and it's pretty immaculate, but kind of sad. Like a really hot girl who's now 80 years old and still a virgin. (did I just say that?)

    Best!
    Ben.
