Range Rover or Cayenne?

Are you positive about that?

 

I drove a new RR yesterday, after a friend took delivery. The vehicle seems more BMW on the inside than anything else, although it lacked the additional seat adjustments of my 7 series. Handled pretty decently for such a beast, but i want to provoke all of you for a moment: unless you have a real need for a truck, for hauling or towing, why drive one of these things? The center of gravity is high, the aerodynamics are brick-like, and no matter how brilliantly designed they are for acceleration or handling, they still handicap you considerably compared to a car or even a station wagon. (I'll grant you, i've not driven the P-truck, but i gotta believe it suffers from some of the same problems as any vehicle of its size). As a people hauler, it still can't compare to a lux. sedan for comfort, either, so i just don't get it.

 

From my POV the Cayenne Turbo doesn't really sufferfrom lack of accel (heck, it whips my dads R230 500) and it handles decently for a large truck. We come from a family where LX470's and W463's are driven till they are two wheeling and even then we turn even more. The Cayenne and Range don't suffer that bad handling wise, but then agian, I don't know who buys a people hauler and worries about preformance. The Caynne just has it

And a wildcard: Have you driving the GX470? That can compare with almost every lux. sedan out there except it's sedan brother, the LS430.

 

After about 6 weeks of trying to decide which suv was going to replace my GX470. I too went with the RR (adriatic blue/parchment/blue piping) over the Cayenne or MB. My wife has an X5 so I just wanted something different. So far I am very pleased with my decision. Excellent ride quality and interior with a really great stereo. Acceleration is not as good as the X5 or Cayenne but that's what the other cars are for. The RR feels likes it's made better and just more car for the money also the best looking IMO. I also considered the G55/G500 but I am just not crazy about the looks.

Mountain biking
Kayaking
Visiting the cottage in inclement weather (dirt roads)
Canadian winters

Nothing better.

 

British Motors is cool. I was able to get some discount when I helped my cousin purchased one 6 months ago.

Way cool, if Dan can get his craving, how about we do some off roading on our next drive

Noel: have a lexus lx470 we can go offroading in. Tried it on a firetrail behind my house. Worked well enough, but I have no experience doing this kind of thing. Also taken ... let's just say a non-road route to Mt. Ham.

You can't go wrong with a Rangie. Love the vantage point from the front seats. Makes you feel safer that you can see so far ahead, doesn't it? Love my Land Rover!
