"Ferrari will introduce a race version of the 'Challenge Stradale' at next month's Detroit Motor Show as the Italian marque aim to counter the threat posed by Porsche's new 996GT3 RSR. The new model, to be called the 360GTC ( Grand Turismo Competizione ) receives a similar acronym to its recently introduced big sister, the 575GTC.

The current 360 Modena based GT has struggled to overcome the Porsche's in the 'baby' GT class in both the American Le Mans Series and the FIA GT's this year, and with Porsche moving the goalposts with their highly rated new racer, Ferrari are keen to respond to the threat. The new 360GTC will also form the basis of the next Ferrari Challenge which will incorporate a GT-style large rear wing for the first time."

I wonder whether the 360 Challenge can be converted into a GTC?

    Best!

Yeah, kind of funny. Funnier, yet, though, is that the 360CS is really a road version of both the 360C and the 360GT... most of the changes made to the 360CS actually come from the GT... but it gets its name from the C. So, now we have a race version of the road combo of the GT and the C... and they called it the GTC. How about that?

The good news for us Stradale owners is that if we decide we really need a wing for our track activity, there will now be one made for our cars!! Awesome!

Here is a photo of the new 360 GTC. It will be presented at the Bologna Motor Show this week. This new version is just an evolution of the recent 360 GT.

    Enjoy

This model, with a dry weight of 1100 kilos, was developed by the Corse Clienti Department in Maranello, in collaboration with Michelotto Automobili to compete in the N-GT class. It makes use of recent evolutions successfully race tested on the 360 GT, with a sequential six speed gearchange and a further improved Magneti Marelli electronics package. The aerodynamics are substantially different to the 360 GT, given that the 360 GTC has been newly homologated by FIA/ACO from the Challenge Stradale, taking up from its basic elements: front bumper, side skirts, engine cover and double rear end. Wind tunnel research has led to a new system for the rear wing, with a notable improvement in vertical downforce. The performance of the 90 degree V8 3586.2cc engine has been improved in terms of consumption and power, putting out 445 horsepower at 8750 rpm.
