How do you check the codes on a 348 with Motronic 2.7? Do you need an OBD-II? If so is this something a DIYer can use and understand? I have run codes on other car but they display on a screen on the dash not on a hand held device. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your car (pre-1996) is OBDI (versus OBDII).

I bought a scanner from Kragen less than $100.00. I plugs into a receptacle under the dash. Pull the codes while the car is running. The book includes all the generic codes but none of the P1 codes. Those are Manufacturer specific.

I don't know about 348s but 355s with 2.7 have push buttons adjacent to the ecus that will cause check engine light to flash stored codes.

Thanks for the chart. Do you use this with the OBD 1?

Those are the codes that flash on the dash. Just remove the access panels behind the seats and follow the instructions, count the blinks and look up on the chart. I expect that the SD-1 will give much more information.

Ok, thanks. Will the check engine light blink? Is this what I am looking for?
