I had an Escort Passport SR7 radar detector and ZR3 laser shifter installed in my 360 CS. The reason I like the system is that it can be completely concealed. I have a few pictures of the installation (done by Innovative Audio / Bellevue; WA).

The left/right laser detectors are completely concealed in the air intakes behind the challenger grills. The radar detector is in the middle hidden by the bumper.

The rear laser shifter is mounted on the license plate the only installation detail I don’t like that much since it hides the license plate lights (but there seems to be no better solution). Cable runs through a hole drilled into the light cover so that it could be replaced in case the sensor is uninstalled.

The rear cable is routed along the frame behind the exhaust. This area gets so hot in my CS that I had them cover the cable in a heat shielding tube. I recommend this also for the Modena/Spider.

Installation of the mute switch using an empty switch slot and a Ferrari switch. The LED shows status (green color) and alarm (turns red).

Thanks fro sharing. Innovative Audio did a very nice and clean install. One question: how do you plan on hearing the alarm when you have that 3.6l going at full song right behind you;)?

Is your the Rosso Scuderia 360 CS that was at Fos? If so, how do you like the color? Does it get more orange like in direct sun?

I am placed my order for this color but am concerned that the coor might become to orange light in bright sunlight.

yes – all cable routing is done along the normal wiring harness – no drilling besides the LED and rear shifter – they took ~30 pictures to document what they did – they know I am anal with aftermarket installation what can I say

the warning buzzer is very loud – I have one window open most of the time and thers is no way to miss it – the reason that works is that after the initial loud warning the buzzer turns down to a low volume at which point you will not hear it anymore (window open etc.) – now the LED comes into play; it turns red and blinks as long as you are hit and through that shows you how long the radar/laser signal is present– it happens that the LED is in my peripheral vision – it works perfect for me

if you have the engine at full speed you are in the reckless driving range at best and no radar detector gadget will protect you (only a good lawyer) – with the sound and the looks of the car I assume you get pulled over no matter what – I like the detector/shifter because it works against the revenue collection on highways and roads, i.e. if you are 10-15mph over

At the time I got mine FoS had two – same color – not sure which one you saw

I like it – it fits the car perfectly and surprisingly the alcantara red is a perfect match – as you I had serious doubts if I could stand the color (I had a silver Modena before and I loved the low key looks) – be aware that nobody will miss you with the Stradale/ F1 color combo

The color is used by the F1 cars because the TV introduces a color shift, i.e. it appears as darker red. Sun or a camera flash make the car look more orange – strangest thing I have seen as car color.

However argue against the look under normal light:

Is radar sensitivity affected by placing behind bumper?

    Thomas,

I looked at both cars - if your is the suede interior, it would be Rosso Scuderia. The other was a Rosso Corsa. I have to say that this is the biggest challenge in the options for the car - in the shade, the colors look so close but yours is so much better.

I never got an opportunity to see both in direct sunlight so sitll have doubts on which to get although in the computer, it is the same color as your.

Had a Mercedes once that was a dark blue in the shade but a bright purple in the sun and that was a problem for me.

Thanks for your feedback, maybe, I'll run into your car in Bellevue in the sun before I have to lock down the color of mine...;-)

I did run for some time with my Escort Passport Solo S2 in parallel - the SR7 showed slightly better responsiveness.

I was more worried about the laser shifters, which are mounted deep in the front air intakes. However they work – I have been hit on several occasions.

    Thomas:

What system are you using for the detector and laser shifters. I have not heard of SR7? Are there any tests that have been done on this unit to see how well it works? Web site would be great. I can not imagine driving a Stradale in that color and not having the lastest in protection.

By the way your car is beautiful!! :)

it is called the Escort Passport SR7 - so this might be the reason - go to (you also find the ZR3 there):

    http://www.escortinc.com/

it is to my knowledge the best completely concealed version available (don’t like the K40 I had in my P-car)

Do you know if he keeps the laser shifter activated for longer than 5 seconds when it detects laser?

I was going to get the Lidatek system

    www.lidatek.com

But it only activates for 5 seconds then resets.

The escort site does not say if it does or not. Since escort has the sr7 and zr3 combined into one system now I am thinking about going with it.

I have a passport 8500 now and have been very happy with it. I like the V1 but they do not offer a laser jammer.

yes it will stay active and shift the laser - the gun will show an error code (old guns) or a jamming code (new guns)

if you hit the mute button twice the ZR3 will stop shifting and goes in to receive mode for 60seconds after which it goes back into normal mode accompanied by a beep

the recommendation is that once you are hit by a laser gun that you adjust speed and hit the button (twice) after 50 sec so that the gun can get a read

explanation for this procedure is that you might get pulled over if it is obvious that you have a jammer – not sure what the reason would be

anyhow if one buys all this or not – it is better to argue against assumed speeding than a measured number - it also will be hard to find the installation in my car – I figure it will shift the odds my way a few percent.

the SRX is a re-labled SR7 & ZR3 only available for selected installers - prices and functionality is the same - what they actually do is take the shifters & cables out of the ZR3 box and connect it to the SR7 - so you never use the ZR3 control unit anyhow - go figure

    Hi Thomas:

From what I can see, I like the quality of the installation.

For me the cost of the lazer jammer and detector is not the biggest issue it is more knowing that I purchased the best protection I could afford. The cost of insurance is the biggest factor for me, one or two tickets (even without demerit points) could place me into facility insurance! :(

Do you know if the radar unit runs steath to the cop's radar detector detectors?

What was the cost of your installation?

    Thxs

Thanks for all the info Thomas.

Loungedog, All of the Escort detectors out now are stealth to VG2.

That CS is gorgeous - I love 360's, but the new bumpers and side trim is even more wild. Excellent choice!
