I'd like to thank the group for all the good input.
I'm back in the sportbike game. I pick up my new (well 1100 miles old) 2003 R1 on Tuesday. Here's a pic:

    No problem,
I found one that had been riden 1100 miles in about a week and regretfully returned. I paid $6600.

Thanks for all the well wishing.
Yes, I do intend to be safe. I'll not be pushing this bike near it's limit. I just love the way they handle and accelerate. I've survived many years of riding, (knock wood), and don't intend to mess up my record. Now, to look for some nice smooth, gravel free country roads......................

    Those bikes are amazing!

To all potential bikers out there, just remember that there are only two types of motorcyclists: those that have been down, and those that will go down. But nearly all crashes are survivable: if you wear good protective gear! Full-face helmet, armored jacket and pants (or onepiece leathers), gloves, and boots...at all times. That stuff has saved my ass (and my head, hands, feet...) three times now. Totalled two bikes but not my body.

    Have fun!

Congrats and be safe. I'm a Yamaha guy, I used to ride bikes but switched to snowmobiles. They make a great product.

Are you serious only $6600!?!?! That's a steal. Can you give me the name of the dealership where you're getting it from so I can call and ask if they have any more?

Nice bike. Be careful. Watch for the idiot turning in front of you, or pulling out of the driveway. Seems like those are the most common ways of getting hurt.
