WOW!! Damn! The driver is lucky to have suffered only some back pain after all that tumbling. That roll cage really protected him.
Ouch! I have a few VHS tape of the SilverStateClassic races. One of them has a TR that apparently wrecked at over 190mph! Ejected both passengers. The driver lived, but his wife/navigator unfortunately did not.
Someone please tell me what they were saying in the video and what happened to the car to make it lose control. Blown tire? Engine issues?
omg... I just watched this. That is crazy... it really does reinforce how important it is to have safety gear, doesn't it?!! Thank goodness for the roll-cage! I posted a story once about the silver-state in 1997... now in the archives of off-topic... mustang blew a tire at 170 .... pantera went off the road at 200... nothing left but the roll-cage. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/132929/308720.html
It seems to me that the 350Z suffered catastrophic engine/driveline failure. He tried to slow it down by down shifting, but the rear tires were probably getting a 20w50 bath, that's when it spun. Of course I don't speak Japanese so this is all speculation. Dave
I haven't seen the video yet (DL'ing it now) but if this is the thoroughly tuned orange Z, it had a blowout. An article on this was in Autoweek (or one of those magazines -- I subscribe to 6 right now) about a month ago. As was mentioned -- the rollcage did its job.
