I checked out ferrari.com and have recently fell in love with the 360GTC. Mucho thanks to Lawdog for going undercover and grabbing the video straight from the factory! My questions is basically pretty simple. How do you go about getting one and racing it for a season? Do you need to be an experienced racer with all kinds of qualifications or can Joe Blow go down to the local Ferrari dealer and get on a list for one as long as he has the money. I'm sure it's not that simple but how do you get one? I got hooked on the sound of them at the event over in New Orleans and was amazed at how well they handled the track. I think I remember that you basically race them for the dealer you purchase it at and they assist with the maintanence. Ok now for the experts. Thanks

The 360GTC is a real race car and running one would take a very well funded effort if one hoped to be competitive. Millions of dollars. The days of Gentlemen racers driving their SWB to the track, racing and driving home are sadly gone.

Would it have to be raced? I figured it would be millions but if you had millions could you have it to use as weekend track car or do you have to race it competitively? Basically just have it as a toy? Thanks for the fast response.

If you're looking for the ultimate toy I'd suggest an older F1 car. Ferrari will sell you one for about 1 million. Track support and upkeep not included but they'll provide that as well for a bit more...

Check with your local dealer, call Ferrari's Corse Clienti department, check ads in Cavallino and Forza (some N-GT cars have come up for sale), and all the usual suspects like Michael Sheehan, Symbolic, etc. You may be able to get close to what you want for much less than "millions", especially if it's just a weekend track car.

    Just my $.02

The rebuild cost on a 333 is 125K every 24 hours. That doesn't include labor to remove it or put it back in or shipping back to Italy. I doubt the 360GTC will be cost effective as a toy.

WOW! Now I see where you are coming from Jim. I had no clue that it was that crazy. I seriously love the car but now that I see the expense of it all I don't think I could spend that money even if I had it. There was a man in New Orleans that brought two of them with him to the track. He told me that he had not driven them in over a year and that they still had the same gas. I thought to myself that it seemed crazy to only track the cars so little but now that I know that I can't seem to blame him.

Boy, wouldn't it be great to have a couple of nice race cars that got so much use that they had year old gas in the tanks...

    Dave,
I totally agree with you. However this guy also owned an F50 as well as a 550 he drove around. I think the 333's where just for special occasions. DES and I ate dinner with him and he told us a story about how he has not put hardly any miles on the F50. He says the main thing he enjoys doing is leaving out of his driveway in first, nail the throttle and by the time he goes into second he hits a tunnel close by. He flys through the tunnel at who knows what speed and then upon exiting turns around and does it all over. Must be fun!!!

One thing I learned early on was, toys are no fun unless you have time to play with them...

LMAO!!! I think he does drive the cars as much as possible. He's a big Ferrari guy but probably has so many other toys it's hard to get around to all of them.

I would doubt you could just purchase one outright. this would go along with race-only cars where you would submit an application with 1) prior racing experience and 2) how you plan on professionally racing the car. that is my guess at least. this is how some other race cars are sold.

Thanks Schatten. I figured it would be a long process of application. I wish that you could buy one to just carry to the track but then again a race car isn't really just a toy.

Yes, but the 333SP has a much higher specific output, a much higher red line and can only be rebuilt in Italy.

The 360GTC will be dealer rebuildable and probably engines will typically last alot more than 24 hrs. After all, the output is not that much higher than the Stradale (445 vs 425... and the Stradale has a muffler and cats).

IMHO, the 360GTC will be as much a "cost effective toy" as a P-Bug GT2 or GT-3 (which is, not very).

another example of a race car that you must apply for - the Viper Competition Coupe.

    Here's the details:
    http://www.vipercompetitioncoupe.com/eligibility/eligibility.html

the late Paul Mumford drove one in last year's OTC and two pro events placing 3rd and 1st. (definatetly not too shabby for his first two pro races)

I'd assume the local F-dealer would have details regarding purchasing one of these. But as far as helping you out with maintenance, that is doubtful. I'm not sure how much, if at all, they help out on the 360C's which are currently being raced. Maybe a 10 or 20% discount on labor? If so, that would be it.

    I've seen the price of a new 2002 360GT published at $415K.

I've also seen at least one for sale (JMB Racing).

I could get a team together for a season and not spend $1 million.
It will be hard to find for a while because Ferrari DOES want them in the hands of racers, but the trickle down will occur, as always.

Risi Competition has 2 360GTs, which I'm sure will be replaced by GTCs.
That's two for the market right there!

Yes I was one of the first guys that ponied up $20k and asked Dodge to build it and to our surprise they did. It's a long story but I took it to Silverstate to run in 180 tech speed class was not allowed to run as tech inspectors weren't familiar with construction. I was upset but made the most of it... I drove it back to Riverside !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then drove it to the show on Rodeo the next couple of weeks then sold it for a profit.
I don't have enough free time to use it as a dedicated track car (and it is!). SWEET RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And talk about loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Say what???????? porsche cup cars list rebuilds at 30hrs, but have run 50+ and upon disassembly showed NO wear. a street gt3 or gt2 would be as cost effective a track toy as they come -- in their respective price bracket, and if the 360gtc engine still has the granade feature, er, t-belt tensioner issue... that makes the comparison to even a p-car cup car moot -- saying nothing about it v. a street gt3.

The price of a 360 GTC is 402k Euro ex-factory. You have to submit an application to the factory via your dealer for purchase approval. The 360 GTC is mechanically little different from the latest spec 360 GT cars, save for some aerodynamic changes. The major teams such as Velocqx and RISI have continuously developed the cars as they race them. Velocqx developed the Hewland sequential gearbox in conjunction with Michelotto for example. New developments are continuosly becoming available over time and can be fitted to existing cars, for a price. The sequential box has been standard fitment on new cars for a while and can be retrofitted at circa $50k US. Another recent mod is the airbox which is worth 5hp at a cost of about $5k US.

I know of 3 360 N-GT's for sale at the moment and 3 that have recently changed hands. Price very much depends upon condition, specification (important) and how much "life" is left in various components before rebuild. An engine has a "life" of 5000 RACE Kms and while it costs serious money to send it to Michelotto for rebuild (circa $80k US), many teams have the technology and experience to rebuild locally. Same goes for gearbox and other major bits. In less stressful club racing, the "life" would go up substantially from 5000km, especially if the Rev limit is decreased. Even at 7000rpm, these cars are more than most average drivers can handle. I see no reason why you couldn't club race these cars for reasonable money. However, you probably do require some specialist assistance at the track to make life easy.

Recent sales: An unused very early spec N-GT recently sold to Germany for $300k US plus middleman commission. An early spec Australian N-GT with accident history sold for a little under $300k US (don't know mechanical condition). Starting price for early, poor condition is approx $250k US running through to about $350k for late spec new cars.

CARS FOR SALE: A 2002 N-GT with an 8 race history in Australian Nations Cup is currently for sale. Sold with fresh zero km engine (step 3 spec) and new paint. Spares available. Asking price circa $300k US.

Velocqx race team in England is moving to Audi and are selling their 360 N-GT's and 360 GT. Latest spec cars with no expense spared on maintanence and priced accordingly.

Whats the maintenance going to be like of a 575GTC ? thats a great car. A BBLM is a fun track toy too & you dont have to rebuild it every 24 hours & I'm sure a rebuild is under $20k My 512TR racer I'm shooting for a once annual rebuild with around 550hp.
