    Boudewijn,

It's 0557GT, 1956 Tour de France. The use of the "TdF" moniker for these cars was inspired by de Portago's 1st OA victory in this competition.

This is not the same car and no, unfortunately I haven't been able to identify it. Many major features are different.

Kare, the 2nd pic was taken after (and not before) de Portago owned the car, and was taken when registered in the Bahamas, at least the licence plate was. The pic comes from "Le Ferrari di Pininfarina" by Angelo Tito Anselmi 1988 page 111 and the S/N is definitely stated as 0557GT.

The car is also identified as 0557GT in Mazzuchelli's big Pininfarina book but this is definitely wrong. The front fenders are of different shape, grille is different, air doors on front fenders are in different position, ride height is different, rear body shape is all different. 0557GT was never crashed to reason a complete reconstruction of bodywork. Therefore this must really be 0563GT (none of the earlier cars matches the details either).

See also Thoroughbred & Classic Cars October 1992 p. 58-83 for a 6-page review with many detailed photos. It clearly shows that 0577GT still bears all features more or less exactly as seen in Tour de France in September of 1956.

And from my information this is 0563GT

    So what's the difference?

    > So what's the difference?

General body shape is similar but far from identical; 0557GT has no trunk for instance. Details that show clearly in above pictures include grille (0563GT only has 5 horizontal bars, while 0557GT has 6 or 7) and rear view mirror (different type: 0557GT has that old ovoid mirror, while 0563 has a massive piece, which looks like the model that includes map lights). Besides, why would Bruce Kessler stand beside Portago's car and not the one owned by himself? :eek:p

    Best wishes, Kare
