Here is a quote I found on Ebay: "This is a solid 348 that looks and drives as new and the previous owner added the updated polished cavallinos and had the rocker panels wet sanded to reveal the rossa corsa paint underneath. " ???
Dave they painted over the red with black. YES, At the factory! I know this for a fact because I took my rockers off to repair them. They were damaged from hitting stupid speed bumps too hard. I sanded them down myself to the bare fiberglass. As I was sanding I was surprized to find out that indeed the factory just painted black over the body color paint. They also did this on the front, and rear bumpers. This is another reason that I feal the quality of work done on Ferrari's at the factory doesn't equal the price tag at the dealer.
Wow Ernie...that is a great piece of trivia. I would never have thought they would be so cheesy in the factory paint shop. Now I'm going to hunt through some books and see if I find a picture from the factory that shows this fact. Good information to know.
I think that the Body colored Spoilers and Rockers look BETTER than the black ones. Like in the later model 348's. (Same for Testarossa's)
"I sanded them down myself to the bare fiberglass. As I was sanding I was surprized to find out that indeed the factory just painted black over the body color paint." I had no idea! I made this post because I thought it would be absurd for Ferrari to paint over the body color on the rocker panels. I had always assumed that they had just been originally black. How odd...
