I've driven the new Elise 111S this weekend in the Netherlands. Unbelievable. The power to weight ratio is supercar territory: 11LB per HP. 0-60 under 5 sec. All out of 160hp. This car is sooooo light and with no power steering......

The European car is much (200LB) lighter than the upcoming US version, but the US version has 29 more HP.

    I need one

Marvelous. I can tell by the grin on your face that it was an exhilirating drive. I look forward to seeing the US version next spring. I think cars like the Elise are the future of sports cars. Small, light cars that return the joy to street driving. Supercars that can only thrill the driver on the track have limited appeal. Not everyone can, or will, track their cars, and those who don't will gravitate to cars like the Elise.

HP war is on! After average sports cars hit 500hp then what?

Light weight = more feel of speed
Small car = more feel of speed
torque = more feel of speed

Unfortunatly the 575 and Murcielago go fast so well, that they make 160mph feel smooth and easy.

I like cars that make 95mph feel fast again.

No I don't remember you going off on me.
I just don't see what you guys like about this car.
Honestly I feel it looks like a Kitcar.
Its probably a great car,"toyota quality" but
its too goddy looking, sorry if that upsets some of you
IT LOOKS LIKE A KITCAR !!
Also if you give up weight {2000lbs} as compared to most cars
at {3000+lbs} your giving up safty, and Im sure other stuff too.

Well I can tell by your user name that your a lotus fan.
No offense, I like lotus, Just not the Elise, it has to many scoops,
holes, curves, its just goddy, Im sorry I try to see it for a sports car.
But variety is the spice of life. I love Porsche's and Ferrari's, even some
Lambos. But the elise is to goddy. Its how I feel, I guess noone agrees
with me, Or their to afraid to say anything. Just seems weird that Im the only one who feels this way, I consider my taste to be very common.

I agree with you. But I think the F40 looks like a kit car also.
When you go for a pure track car.... you don't get something as pretty a 360. The more pure track car....unfortunatly the more scoops, holes and curves, its just goddy.

Do I want a pretty street car or a pure track car that I can drive all week long on the street, that cost less to buy than a F40 cost to service, and will keep on the F40 bumper all around the track because its so light.

Now you want to talk "pretty" F50 and Lambo are beauty queens.

This car is designed to be a F40 for the working Joe. Low tech, but why should only the rich guys have fun :)

I saw a silver Lotus 340R (the one with the cycle fenders) on the road in Auburn, Washington a couple of weekends ago. How many of those could be in the country?

O.K. Mark, that was a nice explaination. I see your point about the track thing, But they dont have to look like that, do they?
Funny thing I think the f40 is totally beautiful. :)
F50 is good too, but I don't like it topless.

    Kenny,

I keep the car in the Netherlands. I'm spending 25% of my time there and got sick of rental cars. The leases there are structured totally different than here.
