OT - Boycott !!.. the RIGHT to drive? or Wrong?

I was unaware of the boycott until I saw it on the news. They basically said that not much came of it. Not too many people went through with it. I guess people didn't want to give up the hours from work, Christmas is just around the corner. Also there were suppose to be a bunch of kids staying home from school as part of the boycott but it was reported that more students missed last Friday than today. All in all, I'd say that the boycott was a total failure except for the news coverage. As far as giving licenses to illegals, I don't think it's a good idea. One question I have is if you give them drivers licenses, who would want to insure them? I would think there would be too much of a flight risk if an accident would happen.

 

Much to her chagrin, my fiancee has been working retail (she's a paralegal) for the last 11 months.

She indicates there were definitely far less Hispanics than usual shopping at her location (busiest nationwide for the store she's with), which is normally packed with shoppers of every size, shape and color.

I drive. A lot. Along with Commuter vehicles, Metro Bus traffic certainly seemed less busy as usual, and I didn't see any Standing-Room-Only bus, which is not typical, particularly during certain hours of the day.

All of the above may have also have been affected somewhat by the cool weather (for L.A.), as L.A. motorists are notoriously fickle - but on a Friday? During Holiday season? I think not. BesiDES, it wasn't that cool today.

What slays me, is when the flags start waving... and the chants of a countries name get hollered en masse...
but they ain't American flags, and it ain't America they're chanting.
If a whole bunch of someone's are going to chant the name of "their" country, then I suggest they go back there.

Like the old bumper stickers read: America - Love it or Leave it.

 

I am just befuddled by this whole topic.

My Mom legally immigrated to the United States. Both my Dad's parents did the same. So, its safe to say that my family and I have a reasonable appreciation for how awesome this country is and what a gift it is to be a citizen of, what I consider to be, the greatest country in the world.

How can anyone reasonably expect to obtain a legal document which entitles you to the priveledge of driving when you aren't here legally?

Further, how does it help your cause to stay home from work and/or deny your kids the education they so desparetely need?

Finally, I was just blown away by how smug and ignorant the "leaders" of that nonsense seem to be. Why should we only consider the latin american immigrants to this country? Sure, they represent one of, if not the largest, group in the state but why should they not consider Asian, European and other immigrants to have the same "rights" they're asking for?

I'm just dumbstruck by the whole concept and the fact that former Gov. Davis didn't shoot that stupid bill down in heartbeat. Talk about pandering to a clear and identifiable special interest group.

 

Davis and Bustamante thought that by supporting this bill (biggest socialists in this country that they are...), they'd garner a large portion of the hispanic vote for the recall (not from the illegals), and for future elections (from the illegals).

Problem was these idiots failed to realize that illegal aliens hurt the 'here legitimately' immigrants who went through the process of emigrating, and a large portion of the hispanic community doesn't support it.

This is a very touchy subject (politics), so don't want to say to much more.

 

Possible solution:

Let them go to the DMVs and register for drivers licenses. Collect all their information and photographs in the computer systems. Then round them up and deport them.

If we know about illegals living here, we need to do something about it. It is not that hard to come here legally. The thing that pisses me off the most is that they come here, and then expect us to accomodate them, instead of the other way around. People that evade the law, wave Mexican flags, and steal government money away from hard working legal Americans don't deserve to be here.
