Just rec'd this response via email:

    David Schenck
1986 red and tan, no. 61605, GTS. Dallas.

By the way, I'll recompile the list in a day or two and re-post it here. Then we'll let this thread fade into the sunset and start a new one in June '04 (every 6 months). Again, if you spot this thread in the future, post your 328 info here or email me at : [email protected]

Thanks for all the responses! We're getting close to 100 total 328 registrations... cool! As Steve328 mentions above, only 6000 to go! :)

For all 328 owners who want to know the subtle differences in the various years of 328 production, the following has to be one of the classic (best) 328 threads ever. Remember, this thread was in the old F-Chat format so start at the bottom and work your way up:

Steve328, your profile says you own the 328 and a 288GTO. Tell us about the cars... aside from hp, what other differences and/or similarities? The 288 is a GREAT car!

Thanks for all the responses! I’ve compiled your information, updated the list and this thread is ready to fade into the archives for another 6 months. We've added 16 new cars since last June.

A NEW RECORD! Steve Pickering from the UK breaks the record for latest 328 with his ’89 GTS VIN #82814. We don’t know actual production dates for Euro cars but we know his 328 was produced no earlier than July ’89. Information we have suggests the latest 328 VIN was 83075.

If you find this in the future, post your 328's information on this thread if possible. I’ll update it in June ‘04. Or you can email the information: [email protected]

    1) Year and VIN
    2) GTB or GTS
    3) Exterior / Interior Colors
    4) Location
    5) I'll use your FChat user name unless you specify otherwise
    6) Production date (on US cars only in driver’s door jam)

Also post or email corrections or additions.

    UPDATED STATS:
    - 95 total 328 registrations
    - By Year: 30 – ‘86s, 24 – ‘87s, 19 – ‘88s, 22 – ‘89s
    - By Color: 66 Red (69%), 10 Black (11%), 6 Blue/Azzuro (6%), 4 White (4%), 3 Grigio (3%), 3 Argento/Silver (3%) and 3 Yellow (3%)
    - By Model: 83 GTS (87%), 12 GTB (13%)

    Other Interesting Notes:

*** Note BJ Rowe's car is an ‘87 GTS Turbo - 208. For pics and more info on his car (see the 328 style bumpers), go here:
    http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/18/107.html?978817916

    From Dave328GTB, changes by VIN:
Here are some of the major updates according to parts manual:
Door design (inside handles moved, etc.) #71597. Further inside door changes plus horse on mirror (US cars) #75929.
    valves # 71381
    valve seats #76666
oil cooler #75272 (plus associated parts)
Major changes at 76626 (88.5 cars)include all suspension parts (forks, shocks, sway bars, etc.) brakes, steering rack and wheels which have more offset than before. BTW these wheels are not the same as Mondial’s in width and offset. Also the front bonnet was changed eliminating the hood bending button strut.
ABS does not give a beginning number.
The air box and inlet tube was changed 78069 which I believe coincides with 89 model year in US.
With ABS came another front bonnet and changes under it.
Front and rear shocks were changed again at #78613.
The seats and adjustment mechanisms were completely changed at sometime (no VIN# given)
There are numerous other changes throughout production, but these are the biggies.

Information we have suggests the latest 328 VINs were:
    GTB: 83017 GTS: 83075

    Bob,

I see you've done some homework, I love the GTO it was a child hood dream to own one ever since I saw my first way back in 1984, I still have Car magazines that published the first public pictures of the First proper 'Super Ferrari'.
It is a completely different animal to any of the other V8's built before or since. - It's basically a mid 80's racecar wrapped in 'the' most beautifully designed body ever penned by Pinninfarina, or anyone else for that matter.
The car is razor sharp and is fantastically stable at any speed, although can be handful if your completely insane, Which I'm glad to report, I am not....Although there was the time travelling in Germany on the Autobahn at 185+ mphwhen a caravan pulling volvo pulled into MY lane doing just 70 mph....Good Brakes on the GTO too !!!!
I have real fun driving the car, But I get greater satisfaction driving the 328, Weird I know, but I am just too careful with the GTO, Scared of any kind of damage that I might have to put right, If anyone thinks normal ownership can sometimes stretch the budget, You ought to get one of these things, Bottomless pit doesn't even begin to describe it!
Ownership does have it's very occasional privlege's, I got to go to the launch of the 612, I have rec'd personalised invitations to buy the F40, F50 and Enzo, All of which I turned down, although came really close to the F40.
If you have any specific questions, I'd be glad to answer them, other than that I could rant on all bloody day.
The registry is a great idea, good luck and keep up the good work.

    Regards,

    Steve

I've posted a pic from earlier this year, Last itme the car was out, Mid September-ish.

    Enjoy.

Bob, i have some information you may find of use regarding possible last chassis numbers of 328 production.I can tell you that the last 328 GTB imported into the u.k. was chassis number 82734 in 1989.The last GTS was chassis number 83092 also 1989.412 production had now stopped( u.k. chassis 81803) as had mondial cabriolet in 1988 (78783 u.k.).The last hardtop mondial in the u.k. was 1989 (79348).To make things even murkier mondial t imports started at hardtop (82510) and cab (82430). Testarossa and F40 production continued throughout and i have a picture inside the factory in late 1989 showing 328's being produced alongside the 348!.This points to not a great deal of 328 production after around chassis number 82400 with all the other model introduction. Hope this is of some help, but remember all numbers are u.k. official import only!, regards Matt

Steve nice to hear from a u.k. owner. Your 288 looks amazing. I still treasure a road test with Ron Stratton who used to run a local ferrari dealer fetching his own personal car back fom Maranello. The last time i set eyes on one was Birmingham NEC in either 1984 or 85. I know the Testarossa was making its u.k.debut but all my film went on the 288. Have you had it from new and what was your most memorable trip?..Cheers...Matt

    Hi Matt,

Know the guy who has Ron's old car ! - Small World.
My most memerable trip would have to be 2 years ago when I took it back to Maranello, Everywhere I drove I got waves and shouts, Stopped by French Police twice just so they could look at it. The reception from the Factory was Bloody Fantastic, I got an impromptu tour and treated to a rare trip around the Fiorano Track, A certian Mr. Barrichello just happened to be testing and they pulled him in so I could have 3 amazing laps - A real privelege. We ate lunch in the canteen and I met Luca over his lunch !!! Spent two great days just wandering around Maranello and Modena, We were made so welcome by everyone it was great, The car never missed a beat, Went to Cannes for 3 days, Got a similar reception there and actually someone offered to buy it!, we did 185+ back home.
This has to be the best time with the car.
I have had the car for 5 years or so, And I hope I never have to sell it.

    Regards,

    Steve

PS - I wouldn't mind a copy of those pictures inside the factory your talking about, Would send them to me ?

Here's another pic, Taken Last year one damp and misty September Morning.

    Cheers,

    Steve
