    Hi,
Are the exhaust manifolds (the ones attached to the heads) suppose to come out with the engine or must be removed?

I am doing some planning and removal of all the "easy parts" but I can not figure out how to undo the manifold nuts at the heads.

    Thanks,
    Gianluca

The 1-4 rear header, drops down below.
THe 5-8 front header, removed and stay in the engine bay.

The engine comes out all by itself.

That is what I thought, unfortunately.

Is there any trick to get to the nuts at the headers?

    Hi there Gianluca.
When I recently swapped my system and manifolds for full stainless, access to the rear bank was not really a problem once you remove the heat shield. All you need is a good socket extension with a universal knuckle into the socket. The front bank looks very daunting but once you remove the right hand fuel tank, access is really easy. See the photo I took while siting inside the wheel arch.
Removing the fuel tank is also simple enough and its well worth the effort.
    Best of luck.
    Mick

    Catwhiskers,
    Thank you for the reply.
I can see that, without the shield, it would be much easier. Do I just rip it apart?
I have several nuts on the front bank removed but I think it will be a major PITA to put them back.
I like the idea of removing the gas tank for the front. I have not even got to that yet.

when removing the 5-8 header-- it helps to place a floor jack under the motor--undo the motor mount bolts and lift that side of the motor about 1.5" . then the heard will slide out thru the side.
