Another "Rendezvous" site. 6 MB. http://www.mirafiori.com/real/ren.asf Not the best images, but I've never seen better resolution files on-line.
I have it on VHS and have always loved it. However, recently I read a new article on this. It seems the myth has been debunked! Some guys took the videotape and did a detailed analysis of it. They measured out the actual distances in Paris covered, compared it to the time the car in the video takes to cover the distances and calculated actual sector times. They also proved in this process that the sound track is dubbed on. The car averages 41mph over the coarse and does not exceed about 65 mph at any point. The camera is placed very close to the ground which coupled with the dubbed sound makes it appear the guy is just flying. I was really sad to read this, but hey, the video is still lots of fun! Terry
In the bonus footage of getaway in stockholm 4 there is a 360 spider f1. Not alot of footage of it, but the dvd is pretty good. The actual getaway is not as good as 2, but watch it with the commentary and there are a couple of interesting facts. BTW the corvette is driven by a girl, I don't want to ruin the ending, but she is no ***** when it comes to cops! www.getawayinstockholm.com These were inspired by rendevous But the best footage of ferraris in action, mostly 360's but there is an f50 (filmed before the enzo was released) has to be mischief 3000 www.teckademics.com graet seeing a great mix of exotics like porsche and lambos

Was sportin' 'round Lotus-Cars/YahooGroups, came across this post: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/lotus-cars/message/10405 "i have a few comments on the emails i just read: (i love Rendez-Vous => the best car moment in cinema imho) i can reveal in exclusivity here.... well *not really* in exclusivity actually... => for the french speaking people who read C. Lelouch autobiography written 6-7 years ago...: The car used for the movie was Claude Lelouch' s own car at the time: A Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 L.... not a Ferrari 275 gtb as suggested by the poster of the movie & a few people fouled by the soundtrack! The soundtrack was dubbed. Claude Lelouch was the driver. He did not have the auth' from Paris Police at the time of filming.... so ended up in 'Le commisariat' for a few hours." Monkey-wrench, aye?
If it is Daytona action you want in the movies, get yourself a copy of "The Swiss Conspiracy". Two Daytonas racing each other through the Swiss Alps. Makes Gumball ralley look like a lame duck.
For some Daytona Spider action, take a look at "Speed Zone" (another Cannonball clone). Stupid movie, but some nice Daytona action. Not sure it is an original or a good replica, but it sounds real.
I got it for Christmas - it certainly gets you thinking - I'd say the soundtrack doesn't match the speed he seems to be going. However there are countless red-lights passed and with the soundtrack that is included its an awesome piece of film. I've watched it 3 times already
Wax is correct, the car used in the film for the driving sequence was a Mercedes, not a Ferrari 275gtb. The soundtrack was recorded on a Nagra portable 1/4" reel to reel and then added later, as there is no sound recorded on film.
There is an article about the movie in Dutch "Autovisie". It is true the average and max speed is not that impressive, but it took them 16.5 minute, in a Chrysler Crossfire in the middle of the night, twice the time. The car used in the original movie is a Renault Alpine Berlinetta, driver NOT Lelouch himself but Jean-Louis Schlesser (later F1 testdriver) and the car on the soundtrack was a 66-67 330P, probably taped on owner Pierre Bardinon's personal track, allthough they are not sure about that last thing. this is another link: http://www.gremlinnet.com/Rendez-vous.html Seems to have bandwith problems though.
All interesting information. Though I have the same love for the clip as everyone else, I have always had problems with the audio track. Particulary early in the movie when he is approaching the Arc di Triumph (sp), after an apparent 45 seconds of flat out driving, he brakes for only about 50 feet and then negotiates the roundabout. From that portion alone, I determined that even if the speed was somewhat impressive, the sound was added later. There was an article in Automobile magazine recently (odd nobody mentioned it) and the information there was that the actual vehicle has never been determined. They even said there were rumors it was a Le Mans spec Matra. Oh and if you don't want to purchase it, the video can be had on the net. I, too, obtained the grainy horrible version a year or so ago on the net. In the last few weeks I stumbled across what must be the "new" remastered version for the DVD. It is 127mb and has a fantastic picture. Yes, I have it, no I am not offering to distribute it to everyone. I don't want some copywrite holder coming after me. I am sure it is still somewhere out there to be obtained. The only other tidbit I can offer is what I overheard at an event somewhere that it was a 275GTB and the camera rig was mounted to the vehicle using the bumper mounting points on the front of the car so as to not damage the car in any way. Who knows.
I have a silly book, "Races, Chases, and Crashes". In it, the author says the car in "Rendezvous" is a Ferrari 275GTB and the driver is French Grand Prix racer Maurice Trintignant. I wonder if they were confused with actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, who starred in Lelouch's "A Man and a Woman".
Follow this link http://www.kes.hants.sch.uk/cgi-bin/indiv.pl?name=Maurice+Trintignant ... a great driver! and more likely to be the driver than a movie star fake (ie. their skill is to act not to be real). Pete
For those that don't know, this is an insane video of a 275 racing across Paris at speeds of up to 120mph. 17 red lights are run, as the city is crossed in 9 minutes. I saw this for the first time! How could anyone drive like that through any city. I don't care what time it was done or in what year. Luck, proper planning and luck, staged somewhat? What an incredible sound as well as video. This is a must see.
LOL! That was pretty gentle, Rob. There's a guy on the Houston spotters thread today, looking for an Enzo in River Oaks, also.
Welcome to F-chat and BTW the car's identity is unknown. Not even the creator of the film will say what it was that he was driving. There was a neat little write up in Automobile a few months back about this where they interviewed the guy.
