    I have a 1992 Mercedes 500E with a Valentine unit mounted with the display into the central dash wood. The sensing detector is mounted in the front license plate frame. It works great and has saved me many unpleasant outcomes. It is totally invisible to the untrained eye.

    I also have a 2003 Mercedes S55. Does anyone know of a currently available custom / stealthy application of a Valentine or other good detector for S class Mercedes?

    How do yo get rear detection if your V1 is in the front?

    I don't know since the car had it already when I bought it 3 years ago. But I can tell you that it REALLY WORKS!

    I don't feel comfortable driving a car without one at this point. I have a standard Valentine unit that can be rubber-cupped to the windshield or slid onto the sun visor. That high visibility begs for a stern treatment when you get pulled over for any reason. I would much prefer a more invisible installation even if it compromised function somewhat.

    The 500E is almost perfect: quick, solid, decent looking and seldom breaks. It has the European 1st gear start chip, twin exhausts, low profile tires with AMG wheels. I love it - much more reliable compared to my weekend Ferrari "toys" but not as visceral or exciting overall.

    I have never heard of a V1 installation where it was broken up into separate front and rear...I have been trying to find out about it myself.

    There were several posts on the old board about a stealth install of the V-1 with the display mounted inside of the rear view mirror. This requires a V-1 unit, a prefabricated rear view mirror that is already etched and pre-wired for display (it includes the arrows, don't worry) and an installer or self-help with a little knowledge. I know one of the sponsors offers this mirror, and i know there were postings to a BMW board (referenced on the old F-chat) providing a source for these mirrors at a really low price. I paid alot for my install, by the folks at AI Design in NY. I don't think the "black box" was broken into two units though; i think it is simply installed in a place where the front and rear have a line of sight.

    I was going to go with the V1 in my Mercedes with the stealth installation but now that escort has the remote system with the included laser jammers I will probably go with it. I have had really good luck with my passport. www.escortradar.com

    I don't really like the escort display unit though. I would like to have just the digital screen without the rest of it.

    I don't know where the sensors are beyond the front license plate frame. The display is mounted in the central dash and there is a volume control/mute knob on the left dash next to the switch for the lights. The installation was done by a previous owner.

    Anybody try the Solo S2? I'm curious if cordless technology has gotten any better.The last reviews I read said they were weaker.

    Yes. It says Valentine on the display plate, It has the directional arrows, signal strength led's and bogey counter. Looks like a duck, walks like a duck...

    I wonder if one could simply install two units stealthily, one front, one rear, and have them send their signals to the same display? (or does every unit have a distinct signal?)

    all of the installs I have seen have the main unit somewhere as the receiver like in the page i included.

    I have never seen remote receivers, I would love to see pics if you have any.

    Noodle: I'd love to check out your install at some point. I grew up in Saratoga...now in Hillsborough.

    Slim: problem is that the v1 is calibrated to show the 'side' arrows based on readings from front/rear.
