I have a choice of getting a 04 575M or a 04 360C before my spyder gets here in March. which car would you guys think will depreciate more in value by March. Keep in mind that i will be paying $225 for the 575M ($20K below sticker) and sticker on the coupe.

The 575 value will drop like a stone compared to the 360.

I don't know if it make a difference but the 360 is Pozzi blue on cuio and the 575M is titanium on dark blue.

Wouldn't make any difference. I can't really figure it out, because I like both cars, but the 575 depreciates MUCH faster, and will actually be worth less than the 360 in less than a year, if past history holds.

When its time to sell a 575M you have to find a guy that wants a Ferrari but doesn't want to be flashy or show-off.

Re-selling any 360 has many more potential buyers, two to three times more buyers are looking for some "exotic" or "flash" when they spend the big bucks on a Ferrari.

Ferrari has to slow its trend of making Ferrari into luxury cars and away from exotic. Or you will see Maserati like depreciation.

In the short term the 575 will depreciate faster. But, in the long term the 575 will be worth much more than the 360. For those of us that have been around awhile, I remember when you could buy a Daytona for much less than a 308 . After the 308 craze wore off, the rarity and 12 cylinders of the Daytona caused its value to surpass the 308 by a long shot. Same thing with the 575. Ferrari is making 360s like crazy with the 575s being the much rarer car. So, if you only plan on keeping the car 3-5 years, the 360 will hold its value better. In 5-10 years I believe the 575 will end up being worth more. Plus, the 575 is a 12 which is worth more to me anyway.

why not just go w/o until march? *gasp* :)

i would definitely go with the 360CS. 575's are just getting hammered. plus, the 360 would be a more "unique" driving experience for a couple months than the 575, imho.

Ty, since they made far less 550s and 575s than 360s, the 575 would offer the more "unique" driving experience. After all, unique is defined as rare, very unusual, not common.

Totally agree with this. Which one if more of a classic to you? A Ferrari V12 or a V8? Sure the 575 is not as sporty but it wasn't made to be....it a GT and when your talking about GT you'll be hard press to find one better then a Ferrari, which can't be said about all out sport cars(excluding supercars, not same class).

If that is the case, you have 3 months. Take your future depreciation and take a nice trip to Hawaii, get refreshed and your spider will be here before you know it and you will have saved yourself at least 10k!

Based on what I could figure out when I brought my 98 Maranello, you can expect a Maranello to depreciate by at least 30% within three years. Because the first year is the worst, I'd say that a new Maranello will depreciate by 12% in the first year. Because you are starting out with a 8% discount (i.e., $20k), you should be okay depending on how many miles you drive.

BUT, my guess is that a 360 will sell a lot faster than a 575. Supposedly in Europe, Maranellos outsell Modenas, but that's not the case here.

Long story short, I'd go for the Maranello only if you plan on keeping it. Like Frank said, it is a totally different car than the 360. Can you say TORQUE? A 360 with F1 is one screaming machine. A 550/575 is a throwback to days of old, when gas was cheap and rubber was made to smoke.

    Have fun, DrTax

ahh, if it was a 6speed i might have been interested (although i wonder what my '02 is worth now???). pozzi blue is absolutely gorgeous.

i dunno, if you're not too excited about either one and w/ winter - i'd seriously consider abstaining! of course, this is completely hypocritical since i wouldn't take my own advice either :)

if you're going to flip it in march, do NOT buy the 575. you'll get a telephone pole shoved up your arse. no lube. no apologies.

while i generally agree with frank, the numbers are not that easy to cross-reference.

they only made about 1,400 Daytonas all-in.

they built 3,800 or so 550s. tack on 700 (?) or so 575s per year to that number, and you're at nearly 6,000 by the end of CY 2004. (though i'll bet they've grossly scaled back 575 production).

so that's a lot more than they made Daytonas.

    they made about 2,400 Boxers.

the counter-argument might be the Testarossa at 7,200 units - those prices don't seem to have entirely stablized yet - though the 512TRs (and certainly the F512Ms) have held value better. all in all, they made 10,000 Testarossa variants, and i can't imagine they'll come close to that on the Maranello.

    doody.
