    Unbelievably only 20 mins after I posted the competition we had some one hit the nail on the head!

    Congratulations to Dave Quick (Davequick) - who was the only person to guess the correct answer of 238 grams - I would have also accepted 8 3/8oz but the closest to that was 8 1/2 oz.


    Thanks for all the answers - I will post a picture of the proof latter today!

    I did a google search for titanium shift knobs, then a lookup for shift knobs in general (to see common weights/sizes), then a lookup against an engineering site for densities of various titaniums and then a lookup against the hill-engineering site to determine the diameter of the knobs that he offers.

    Then with these facts and a guestimate of the weight based on volume I subtracted a bit for the assumed void space that needs to be there for mounting.

    So some of it was scientific to get in the right ballpark but then it was kind of a guestimate in the end.

    Yes, I am a dork and I did run the slide and movie projectors for the teacher in grade school. :)
