I came really close to buying one. A XRS with the 6 speed. What I liked most about is it seemed to be the best of ALL worlds - fun to drive, handles more than decently, lots of storage options in it, and best of all loaded was under $21k. Try matrixowners.com or matrixvibe.net to see real owners opinions.

I go back and forth with logical and sports car, sometimes think of 350z
or used Boxster, then I think used landcruiser or Tahoe, now the Matrix
its kind of a compromise sporty car/SUV ect.
    I don't know. I think I need Help :)

Terminally weird car. I drove one the other day and the driving position is odd, the shifter emerging from the dash is odd, and I felt like I was in a very small, strange delivery van.

For the money, check out the new Mazda3 5-door. Much more sporting drive, put together very well, and much better looking.

Mojo - I have the same debate all the time. It's like do I buy a sports car and justify it based on my wife having a practical car (since married couple don't need TWO practical cars after all) or have the practical car because you just never know......it's the hardest debate on earth for the car enthusiast....

There is always the WRX as well - in wagon form IMHO it is the ultimate stealth mobile and wife-friendly choice

See one at an agency I deal with - oddly enough, the license plate frame reads: "Ferrari of San Francisco." Otherwise, all I know is that the agent likes her Matrix.
