Think of it this way. You drill 1500 holes. You clean out 1500 holes. You contersink 1500 holes. You sand off the chassis where the panel will go. You smear on glue. (Which is a secret mixture) You mount the panel and begin riveting in a way to pull it down properly. You first final paint areas you won't be able to reach again. You make sure that you're spot on so the half of the air box riveted to the underside of the tail will mate with the half attached to the engine. Step by step...

thanks again mr Napolis for the sharing of the pics......... i do " rivets" on a daily basis and we ALWAYS!!!! have paint under the heads of button head skin fasters to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion between the fastner and the sheet metal skin. all fasters including countersunk ones are wet installed with a corrosion inhibiter to extend the service life of the structure. bravo to you for the progress on the car and the fact that such a special car found a great " caretaker" to ensure it will live on. gosh i cant wait to see it together. i may have to go to one of these car shows just to see your car!!!!!!!!!

jean louis? Ex NART? If that's who you mean I did see him a whle ago and he is well. I do love 917's. There's a great book on them: "A French Kiss With Death" about McQueen and the making of the movie LeMans.
The east coast does staty with you.

One thing I had not realised from previous photos is how the front guard and door air inlet work in together to make a very clever guard line.

I always thought the air inlet was awkward looking from the side, but that photo angle makes sense ... infact it is very clever bit of styling.

    Again looking good.
