Griots Best of Show Wax
p21s/s100 cleaner Vanilla Moose polish(i think thats the name) p21s/s100 wax I second the vote for Scottwax in Texas. I have never used him but have heard very good things about his work on many different boards. He has been really helpful to a lot of people on OT as well.
Screw it, I'll post the results of the wax test because I won't be able to sleep tonight if I don't. If you are not using one of the top waxes on this list, then you are not using the best for your needs. Might as well get a plain white can called "Paste Wax" for 99 cents. If you say to me that one wax is better than another, be prepared to prove WHY or your just one opinion vs an independant group of testers with all the waxes below kept in the exact same conditions at the same time along with my own semi-pro detailing experience. This message from [email protected] [[email protected]] on Fri, 25 Oct 2002 23:47:58 CET I ordered a wax test report for 46 waxes and polishes and finally read the results when it arrived yesterday in the mail. Some shocking, some not, but here they are. All the products were bought off the shelf or online where they could find them, there was no advertising or sponsorship from any of the manufacturers, and compared against each other over a 6 week period. The products were eval'ed on: price amount of water beads using 500ml of water bead size shine gloss depth clarity, reflectivity slickness color enhancement overall impression, and final grade. Road grime was not a factor in the tests unfortuantely, thats in the round two tests being conducted/prepared. The grading was done in an A+ to F- fashion to form a GPA, and the results are below. ************** 1. Zaino Brother's Polish - second best looking and most durable of all of the products. One of the only products to survive a week long snow storm. Still provided protection after 7 months in the elements. Most superior product and in the top 3 for ''looks'' too. 2. P21S Concours-look Carnuba - first best looking, then Zaino's durability takes over after 3 weeks 3. Klasse All-in-One and Sealant Glaze 4. Armor All Protective Barrier 5. Pinnacle Souveran - third best looking, smells like cocanut/banana and downright edible, Zaino's durability takes over after 3 weeks 6. Pinnacle Paste Glaz Carnuba 7. Rain Dance Premium - name doesn't imply best protection, go for Zaino 8. Mother's California Gold Carnuba Cleaner - availability is awesome 9. Collinite Marque D'Elegance 10. Mother's California Gold Pure Carnuba 11. Blackfire 12. Collinite Super Doublecoat - good for at lesat 3 months of protection, even through ''touch'' drive through car washes several times a month, on par with a synthetic for protection 13. Blitz One Grand 14. Turtle Wax Finish 2001 15. Eagle One Wet Polish and Wax 16. Griot's Garage Carnuba Paste Wax 17. Nu Finish 18. Meguiar's Gold Class 19. Turtle Wax Emerald Series 20. Prestone Bullet Eax 21. Griot's Garage Best of Show 22. Meguiar's Medallion 23. Turtle Eax Super Hard Shell 24. 3M Perfect-IT Show Car Paste 25. Meguiar's #26 Hi-Tech 26. Meguiar's #16 Paste Wax 27. Before Oct 25th 2002, I was using #25... Meguiar's Hi-Tech for a year and a half straight. As soon as I switched to Pinnacle, all I did was wash the car and apply it directly onto the Meguiar's and the differences were PLAINLY visible. If you don't go for the best (not that expensive) then really you shouldn't be reading this thread or doing your own detailing. If you think you can hang, then read my post above and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Sunny
That difference you see is all that matters... not that you can tell one product from another, but what happens when you use two products side by side. In my case, I was using a middle of the road wax. I layered a coat on once every 2-3 weeks and washed every 2-3 weeks. I used one of those California dusters and constantly left hairline scratches and streaks in the wax. I took a can of Pinnacle Souveran and applied it right on top of the Meguiar's after a car wash (I had at least 10 layers of Meguiars on there) and the differences were plainly visible and remarkable in how a $20 dollar difference could have made such a vast improvement. Everyone will choose to suit themselves. However, in the side by side comparisons, I feel sorry for the people using something in the middle or bottom of this list. It can look SOOO much better without any preparation at all. Thats the point I can't drill across enough. I have some Pinnacle Souveran left, my P21S is used up. We'll apply it directly to your wax and see if it makes any difference. If it does, you can keep the remainder of the can and do the whole car and I'll buy more. The secret is spending 2 hours washing and waxing using a premium wax and the right washing/drying materials. If your already spending this time, there is no reason why it can't always be a concours shine. Sunny
Hi JaguarXJ6, the difference I see, the time, price, the protection, etc... is all that matters . Have you had a chance to look at this product: http://www.5starshine.com ? I found it while searching google for "best wax" tests. thanks and happy holidays to all! --tony
Damn, Autoglym Super Resin Polish wasn't in the wax test. O'well.....I've had great results with this, and used it on all my cars including my previous Ferrari, NSX, and current Ferrari. I also add Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. Stuff works wonders, and I've stuck with it ever since.
Welsh - I'm in FL and I know Scotwax...good guy. The most important thing (more than the wax) is how you prep the car first. You need a good polish/cleaner with at buffer to get the paint perfect .... then put what you like on top. I've tried them all, Zaino, Zymol, Klasse, etc. Favorite still is 3m Imperial Hand Glaze with P21S on top. S100 is the same thing as P21S, but is marketed for motorcycles and available at most Harley shops. If you want P21S you have to order it online. My .02 and I won two shows this year with above.
Zaino for me, for black cars a few coats of Z6 does wonders. Awesome product & their customer service is great also if you have any questions or run into any problems.
you can buy this everywhere in the Uk and its cheap! be interesting to see how it compared, dont want to spend 4 times the money of the products mentioned here if it seems the same??
Its 15 quid for P21S and 25 quid for what you need for Zaino. Before you balk at the price, you can stick Zaino out in the UK weather, drive it up to Scotland and bury it in a snow storm for a few weeks, come back, abuse it, and its still stuck on there protecting and looking good. Autoglym can't do that, I'm sorry
My thought exactly XJ6!! as Ive used Autoglym, the finish it produces is actually quite good, 2 washes later and it needs doing again!! Then I tried zymol ital (suggested on here) actually a good finish but it looses the luster after say 3 weeks and the waxes seem to build up, needing a strip t start all over again!! Wasnt questioning the price really to get zaino here its £90 for X2 x4 X6 and catalyst Zyml is £70 Autoglym £15 for both bottles!
...and I'd never do that to my car I wax after every other wash anyway, so this isn't an issue for me.
So do you guys use the whole Zaino system? For a late model Ferrari....Z2 and accelerator? I still miss the reason why you need an accelerator. Don't mind the $$$...just the steps.
I use Zaino Z2, ZFX accelerator, and the car wash. I use other products for everything else. The accelerator reduces drying times down to 10s of minutes instead of hours. Since you can apply up to 3 coats, the time saved in between is well worth the small cost. Sunny
