OK....So I picked my F355 up on the 23rd and this morning......

    SLOW DOWN 1-4 comes on

The manual seems to suggest a cat problem...

Anyone got any ideas? I am driving myself nuts here!

    Merry Christmas by the way!!!!!

    Merry Christmas!

No one in at the dealers today! The car starts fine but after a few seconds it seems to retard the ignition and the light comes back on. I will try again shortly. I am wondering if the cat has got wet?

Taking them off may be a good plan for future reference!

I will let you know how I get on!

Hi Ed sorry to hear youve got the mil light on,
you are going to have to get the dealer to pick it up,i personally would not drive it till its been code read and rectified by the dealer, they may say its ok drive it down, its only one of many sensor's or a wiring harness fault,as tony said post it on the tech help board you should get the code meaning on there,at the end of the day Ed its a dealer job just a shame they are closed,
    merry christmas
    Dale.

    Dear All....

It seems there may have been a temporary glitch....I started the car and let it warm up and there were no problems at all this time. I took her for a quick run up and down after warming her up and she runs like a dream again. Maybe she had a post Xmas Day hangover!!!!

    Tomorrow morning will tell all!!!

It's a common problem normally caused by the insulation breaking down on the Cat ECU's and water/ moisture gets in, there is one per bank, 1 - 4 is mounted on a plate behind the rear wheel arch. It's a 5 min job to change but they are expensive, around £150 a go so get the Dealer to change it as it will never get better only worse. The system can shut the whole bank down if it gets the wrong signals

I agree, almost certainly a CAT ecu. You can pull the plug that that connects the ECU to loom & the car will run OK, but the light will remain on. However check with dealer & ask to be talked through the procedure if the service dept can't help before Monday!

If its post 1995, does it have an OBDII conector?

If so you may want to get a cable and turn the light off yourself (it sounds daunting at first but its really really simple, you just need a cable, some software (vag-com seems to work) and an hour or two)

did you get this sorted. Mines done the same for about 6 months now. Range dealer and they said to give the car a long run. Light went off after about 7 miles. But comes on itemittently. It has also shut down four cylinders before., but if you pull over and turn ignition off/on it clears. It is a well known fault on 355's and its normally just the cat ecu sensor thats faulty. Just needs replacing. Its 99% of the time this and not the cat thats shafted!

This may be a stupid question, but is it possible to get the dealer to remove the cats or do you need a whole new exhaust for that?

If you remove the cats you will not have this problem with ECU warning lights coming up. They measure the temperature of the cats.

Try this method it has worked for many I know.

    Disconnect leads from battery.
    Leave off a few minutes
    Reconnect battery leads.
    Start engine. Dont rev.
Leave to idle for 10-15 mins.
    No lights should appear.
    Turn off engine.
Re start and go for a drive.
    No lights should appear.

I understand this method resets the ecu's.

Not sure how much they are paying! Not enough I would imagine!

The reason for the position is my impending departure! A the end of the month, to be precise! I am heading off to look at other projects. (i.e no idea!) I was only on a 6 month contract, so I am looking for another consulting job...That is what I do!
