During a committee phone call last night, someone (Darth, i believe) mentioned Muhammad Ali knocking out Sunny Liston... That's a pretty famous photo... Then someone else (maybe Darth again) mentioned the Hindenberg... i think the picture of Albert Einstein smiling is pretty well recognized... Also whichever "moon landing" picture... Probably the one of the dude standing there on the moon and you can see a reflection of the moon in his face mask thingie... The Marilyn Monroe photo is a good one... How about O.J. standing in court...? Tricky Dick with his fingers flailing in the air...? How 'bout the three duDES raising the flag in the rubble of the WTC...?
4 way tie for me: =JFK Jr. saluting =US flag being raised above NY rubble on 9/11/01 =Man being executed point-blank to the head in Viet Nam =The photo below: Image Unavailable, Please Login
there is a great story that goes with this picture of how Karsh only had Churchill for a couple of seconds after he had adressed a joint meeting of Canada's Parlement and Senate. He had everything set up and winny hustled in to the room stood on his mark and chomped on a cigar. Karsh made across like he had to adjust something and grabbed the cigar out of his mouth and then wandered back just in time to get that WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE look that is in the pix Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are about a billion chinesse people and I think most of them would recognize this painting of chairmen Mao. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hindenberg shure does have to be up near the top of the list (how many people have a copy of this shot)
In America it's going to be the flag being raised on Iwo Jima. Internationally, if it needs to be an event, then Maybe the picture of what was left after Hiroshima? If The one with the little concrete structure in the middle. Neil Armstrong walking on the moon would also be in this category.
This may not be the best photo but a picture is worth a thousand words.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the heels of the First Flight Centennial, I would offer this photo as a fairly famous image: Image Unavailable, Please Login
A little factoid here... The wingspan of a Boeing 747 is longer than the Wright Brothers' first flight...
