I found this article on a forum, it's in Spanish, I translated it (as far as I can):

It says however that Ferrari is busy building a diesel powered engine. The car and the engine will be showed in the beginning of 2005. It will be a 575 HP V10 diesel engine. It is not officially confirmed by Ferrari.

Will this be the end of the Ferrari tradion? Sporty supercars with a fabulous sound... It will be only a matter of time until we drive a Ferrari SUV or a front wheel driven one.

    The original article:

    LOL!

This story comes RIDICULOUSLY close to a bogus story that I wrote some 1.5 years ago for the Dutch Alfa Romeo club....

MY 360 Modena JTD was also a V10, by merging two Alfa Romeo 2.4 JTD 5-cylinder engines, coming to roughly 4.7 liters displacement.

I nick-named it the "Ferrari 470 Pisa JTD", internally known as the "PFN" or "Progetto Fumare Nero" which translates into as much "Black smoking project"... GRINNNNNNNN....

"Pisa" of course follows the Ferrari tradition of naming cars after Italian cities but Pisa was also a comedy show on Dutch television and of course the crooked Pisa tower doesn't spell too much good either...

    Power output according to me:

    1 x 2.4 JTD = 150 HP @ 4,000 RPM
    1 x 470 Pisa = 342 HP @ 4,230 RPM

The bodywork will be a shrunk down 360 Modena to make it lighter and cheaper to manufacture.

Option list would include the following:
    Towing hook
    Childseat for the passenger seat
Type badge "Powered by Alfa Romeo"
    Roofrack
    etc.

Expected production per annum: 5,000 pcs.

Ferrari would open up a marketing offense and start spreading brochures door-to-door in selected European countries.

Attached it the picture that I used in the article.

If there is any interest, I'll translate the whole story into English.

Once again: the WHOLE story is complete and utter NONSENSE !

A few years ago I was visiting a friend in Italy. Her sister's boyfriend had a Ferrari and I asked her what model. She told me it was a "Tre-cento quaranta otto turbo-diesel". I almost **** myself! They offered diesel engines in Ferraris in Italy? Was this something to do with displacement related taxation, cost of petrol etc.?

Then I realized - it was a 348tb - she interpreted that (somehow) as standing for turbo diesel (td?).

    Whew!
