Hello everyone, I'm quite likely to be joining the ranks of you Ferrari owners very soon but can't make up my mind which car I should opt for. The choices are a '91 Mondial T with 355 alloys and Mondial reg or an '87 LHD 328 GTB. The Mondial has done 73k miles and the 328 60k km's. I'll hopefully be going to see them next week so what should I be looking out for? I have a buyer for my '95 Integrale Evo II but don't want to get rid of that and get something that's just going to make me regret it. I guess I'd prefer the 328 for it's looks but the Mondial's only £16k (on the findit.co.uk site). The 328 is owned by a guy who's offered it to me for £19k, the price he was offered by a dealer in part exchange for a 512 Boxer. Any help / advice would be much appreciated thanks.

    Welcome to Fchat,

Make sure the Car you purchase has a sound history, ie : Regular Service Intervals, If the car has been correctly maintained it sould give you many years of happy motoring.

However if the car is cheap and the history poor, Im sure you will agree you could end up spending all your good earned cash on keeping it on the road.

    Just my advice of coarse,

Good luck and post some pics when you pick it up.

    Joe

I'd go for the 328, i'm probably biased as I used to own one but they are fantastic, LHD isn't a major problem although it obvously affects values but then Mondials are less popular so values are lower anyway

Without any doubt you MUST have either car inspected by a specialist, it may cost a few hundred but could save you 10s of £k's, don't chance it!!! Where in the Country are you? maybe we can recommend somebody to you

Babylon Welcome to the site! Both cars sound good value but are quite different. So decide according to your needs.

    1. Do you need 4 seats? If you have kids or regularly have passengers then go for the mondial. I know people who have bought 2 seater cars only to sell them after a few months because they never took into account their lifestyle and family.

    2. Are running costs an issue? Do you have deep pockets? What can you afford in terms of maintenance per year? One of the largest regular costs is the cambelt change, and in the 328 its pretty easy (I think). The engine stays in and I believe its all changed through the wheel arch. On the Mondial T the cambelts can only be accessed with the engine out, meaning $$$. I believe the same is also the same for the clutch change too.

    3. I believe the 328 engine is easier and cheaper to work on too.

    4. The 328 is a more desirable car than the Mondial too.

    5. Mondial t is newer mechanically and technologically than the 328.

Dont get me wrong. im not a mondial basher. Im a big fan of them. But look at your life, and pocket and decide on one.

    Good Luck!

Just to ditto all the comments bellow really.

I seem to recognise the Mondial T though? - Steve Coleby's?

Wish you luck on your quest.

    Welcome.

Both cars will make you happy, and I'd echo all the above advice. This month's (jan) EVO mag has a buyers' guide for Mondial 8/QV.

It is true that the 328's cambelts can be changed with the engine in situ, saving £££. However, they need doing every 2 years where a Mondial t (newer engine than the 328) may only need them done every 3, so its swings and roundabouts.

    I had a 328 and loved it.

How's the Integrale? My brother is keen to get one, and any advice will be gratefully received; e.g. which is the best model, things to watch out for etc.

Enjoy your quest, and keep us posted!

    Robert.

Thanks for all of that guys, yes it is Steve Coleby's, anybody here know it? I saw it on the FOC site and noted the price. It looks a good car with a fully stamped service book, a bit of rot on the door bottoms and sills but nothing major. I will most likely be starting a family with my lovely wife soon so 4 seats will mean possibly keeping it a bit longer! As for Integrales, my simple advice is this, GET ONE! They are fantastic cars but very useable. Mine is a '95 Giallo Evo II with 46k Kms on the clock and in A1+ condition. It will break my heart to see it go but it's all in a good cause. Going back to Steves Mondial, it's getting checked out by Shiltech and I'll be (hopefully) selling my car tomorrow for £15.500 so if everything's fine with Shiltech, the Mondial will soon be resting in my garage (something I've dreamt about since a kid!)

Gonna try and get some sleep now! Fat chance.

Phil, I saw it on the Owners Club site at £17,500 but have shaken hands at £16,000! I sold my mint '95 Integrale Evo II today so will hopefully be getting the Mondial in a week or two. Whereabouts are you based? I'm in Cwmbran.

    Cheers,

    Hi Joe,

I don't seem to be able to post the pics up, I'm a bit of a doofus on a computer! Can you email me at [email protected] and I'll send them to you and perhaps you'll have more luck posting them up?

    Cheers,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,
It looks like you did well on the mondial & I hope you enjoy it. It's a pity the weather is so dismal at the moment. I'm only down the road in Cardiff, so I will keep my eye out for you. I've been up in cwmbran a couple of times recently at newtown motors.
