This is a weird one. I took the 355 to the dealer for an emissions fix. I mentioned that the stop button on the center console would not stay in the down position. The service writer mentioned that it would probably need a new control panel. The heat would work fine when set in the red. The air would work fine as well. The air would not shut down in the non red position. When the car was returned to me, the blower would work, neither the air or heat would work. Shananigans? I had the panel ($1400) replaced two years and 4000 mile ago. Any thoughts?

Well I don't own a 355, but the a/c-heating equipment is pretty much the same as on the 348. What you want to do is make sure that everything is hooked up properly. It could be that they didn't fully plug in one of the connectors. I had this problem when I first got my 348. The heater would not shut off. Turned out that the climate control was not plugged in properly. The other place you will want to check is your fuses. Also check the ones that are on the inside of the trunk area, near the right front fender. They are attached to the side of the blower box. You will have to take off the top of the trunk liner to get to it. It's no big deal. I think there are six screws that hold the liner in place. Good luck.

Speaking of that ernie, how do you take the console apart to get to the climate control, mines giving me error codes, and staying on. I understand it can be cold solder joints too.

That's easy, all you have to do is remove the two screws that hold the shift gate in place. Then lift up the shift gate and the button pannel, the one with the door locks and gas tank buttons. Get a firm grip on the bottom of the center consol and slide it down about and inch. This way you can hold it from the top and the bottom. Now just pop it out. There are no screws holding it in place. Just the pressure from the sides of the cabin divider, or what ever it is called. Now that you have the center console out, you will be able to see the ecu for the climate control, and the wires. That's it. Two screws and it pops out.

Yes, the control panel button is made out of plastic and has a spring behind it. I had a 550 that the button would not stay down. i took it apart to find out that the bulb that lights up the stop had melted away the clip.
Had to buy a new one(was out of warranty) :-(

The light on the stop switch works when depressed and manually held down. Maybe they did not hook up all of the connections I will give that a try. I will check the fuses as well. Since the light is not broken, maybe I can repair the switch. The cost for replacement is ridiculous. Especially since this one is less han two years old.

    Theo,

On my 355 the stop button suddendly wouldn't stay depressed when pushed (thus I couldn't turn off the climate control when I wanted to) I found a Ferrari enthusiast who repairs electronics and was familiar with the panel. I made arrangements to send him my panel but when I removed it from the car I discovered that the button was simply not depressing fully due to some debris, I cleaned it out and "shazam" it worked again.

Might be worth disassembling for a look see, if for nothing more but to confirm everything is hooked up correctly.

As it turns out, The control panel is dead. When I touch certain ares on the surface of the panel, the air or heat will energize. The replacement panel is $1440. Does anyone know of a more reasonable source for this part?

Theo-m .. check the guy below .... [email protected]

I know he has one for ~ $600 (2nd hand) .. but not sure of the cosmetic state. You may be able to get a good one from combining both yours & his.
