Hey guys, I've got a leak somewhere in the Stainless Steal braided oil line. This is the oil cooler to oil filter line (part# 128239). Has anyone else replaced this hose? There's a large bolt which connects it to the oil filter but I don't know if it's a right or left hand thread. I've tried to loosen it but it's really on tight. Is there a crush washer behind this bolt? If so, is that all I need to replace or should I replace the whole line. Any tips or ticks in doing this fix? T. Rutlands is offering this hose and the lower cooling to crankcase hose in a kit for $332.49. What do you think? Thanks, Tom
The hose fails at the fittings. They are not repairable. Their failure is common. The Rutlands price is great.
I replaced my oil lines on my QV this Winter and, yes, there are on there tightly! Be sure to use a second wrench on the welded nut next to the oil line fitting on the cooler when you loosen/tighten the line. Damn--I paid over $500 for a pair of oil lines from T Rulands over the Winter!
The braided oil lines has been the subject of a recall because the lines failed at fitting-to-line connection. The new lines are marked with a green dot. If yours are not, maybe a call to a Ferrari dealer would be appropriate? I believe that recalls doesn't have an expiry date or? Check http://www.ferrari.jenkins.org/books/328_tech.pdf, recall 143.
They *ARE* repairable. Many have done it. Just find a competent hydraulic hose specialist. There is some ambiguity as to whether the ends are reusable. Some say not, others have done it. Perhaps there are different OEM ends. If you have to replace the ends, they are a bugger to find, but not impossible.
They can be repaired for under $100, yes the fittings are on tight, don't put them back on too tight, use new copper washers on the banjo end.
328's with VINs between 60053 and 63809 would need to have the lines checked, and verified that they have been updated.
