Some of his eBay feedback doesn't look too encouraging, e.g. "This seller has been reported to Ebay and Paypal for Fraud, so watch out!!!!!!!!"

Unfortunatley not Steve, whilst Paypal does offer some protection they are woefully slow in responding to problems, by which time the seller will have cancelled their account / changed bank details etc which would mean the buyer / paypal cannot get their money back.
In this scenario it would be quite a rare occurance for Paypal / Ebay to refund your money!

In short using Paypal with your credit card registerd will at least mean you can set Visa/Amex/MC on them, and you may get your hard earned back

If you check his feedback, any positives were deals which he was the buyer - so this guy is running abt a 95% NEGATIVE rating on auctions where he is the seller. I say AVOID.

Even more unfortunately, when you set VISA/MC on paypal you will get your money back, but you will also get a permanent banning from using paypal. When you sign on with paypak, you agree to use their arbitrary (not arbitration) system to recover funds. If you go outside the system, e.g. complain to VISA who then gets you your money, they cancel your account and won't re-open it unless you repay what you got out of them via VISA.

I know 'cause I been there, done that.
