    Hello again "F"-Chatters,

I was just wondering if anyone would have any pics to send of my future t-belt R/R challange on a 1979 308GTB USA version??

If you could spare any pics as in where the cams (marks) should be and anything else that you'd feel important, I'd be greatfull!!

    Thanks, chris.

    Gianluca,

First, please let me thank you for the trouble you spent taking and sending the pics! Very much appreciated!!

Would this be the same setting for the vehicle I have, 1979 308GTB Carb. USA Version?.

PM1-4 all cams lined up dead center?

    Thanks, chris.

    Chris,
While I believe this setting should be the same on your car, I will let more experienced chatters confirm this.

There is a lot of information on this on the old site and a quick search should confirm all the above.

By the way, I did my service with the engine out of the car so I am not too familiar with all the caveats one needs to pay attention to if the service is with the engine in the car.

I replaced all the seals, gaskets and bearings I came in contact with, including the timing belts driving gears bearings (inner and outer).
I purchased all the bearings and seals from Mcmaster Carr or MSC. I have 1500 miles on the engine (after the service) and there are no leaks at all.
I made my own tensioner bearings sleves out of alluminium and that are user-repleaceable.

    All hoses have been replaced.

Are you going to take the engine out?

The alignment marks are the same for all 308/328s.

Please search the old ferrari chat tech Q&A, and Tech Q&A archives. There is a wealth of details on changing the cam belts, aligning the cams, triming the gaskets, sealing the cam covers, tools to lock the cams while doing it, etc. It's well worth the effort to do the searches.

I do not think is not leaking because I cut my own gaskets...but I did, in fact, cut my own.
Is it worth it? Maybe not for everyone but I would do it again.
