    Question for the Holiday;

So my two friends are disagreeing over what constitutes and exotic car.

One guy(A) owns a Pantera and two Corvettes,
    the other(B) owns a Testarossa.

Guy 'A' wants to buy a Viper and/or a Diablo.

Guy 'B' says go for the Diablo, the Viper isn't an exotic.

Guy 'A' says yes because it is limited production, high horsepower.

Guy 'B' says the Corvette Z06 is limited production and high horsepower and it is NOT considered an exotic either.

Guy 'A' asks, aside from the manufacturer why is the Testarossa considered an exotic then?

Guy 'B' can't come up with a definative answer to satisfy both.

Guy 'C' (Me) wonders, (My 308 is limited production with hardly any horsepower so where does a 308 fit in?)

So is the Pantera an exotic, an Alfa, or an Iso?......................

    And it goes on.........................................................

    Here is a definition from an online dictionary;

    1. "From another part of the world; foreign:"..................................

    2. "Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly strange:".........................

I am inclined to go with #2

    Any further clarifications?

    Thanks, DJ

I think as exotic as a car that can perform in ways that comprable cars can not. The TR was exotic in its day. Not every car can do 170+ mph

Exotic is something that is made in small numbers.

Ferrari does not make very many cars at all.

And thusly, I do not see BMW's or Corvettes or even most Porsche’s as Exotic.

    Qualifications For Participation

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the basic tenants for Autozotica and our efforts is the premise that across the country there are many "Car Clubs" dedicated to a specific marque.

There are very few groups that focus specifically on "limited World Class" Sports Cars and sport coupes.

We do not have serious concours and well we are also not a racing venue.

We are a driver and enthusiasts venue for those exotic car owners to share the passion for their special automotive machinery with others.

Therefore, We have several guidelines for qualifying, all will have the limitation of :

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1] There are or were less than 5,000 total units produced per year.

(including all variations and aftermarket tuned editions)
(This is where the surprises arise and we have to evaluate individually)

2] There will be no more than two passenger doors

3] There will be no less that 200 horsepower (factory specification)

An exception may be given to some of the earlier classic sportcars that were otherwise Hi-Performance to their class when produced.
    Rarity is the first consideration!
4] The car was originally constructed with the intent that it is a "Sportscar" or "GT-Class Automobile".

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: Replicars will be considered on a individual basis. Generally they represent historically significant cars that are so rare as to preclude ownership of any significant numbers. These qualified replicars are specially crafted (usually on a steel-tube frame) will be powered by an appropriate engine and drive train produced by the manufacturer the replicar is depicting. The untrained eye will find it fairly difficult to ascertain the difference from the original car.

If your special machine is not listed or is not yet qualified here, please e-mail us .
