WITH MUCH GOING ON WITH GENEROUS, CONSTANT OFFERS FROM ENERGIZER BATTERY CO, AS BEING A VP IN ST LOUEY, WHICH I TURNED DOWN 6 MONTHS AGO......MY WIFE AND I HAVE DECIDED TO GIVE THEM 5 MORE YEARS AS THEIR TOP INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTOR IN THE COUNTRY.

I SIGNED A 5 YEAR EXTENTION LAST MONDAY WITH THEM TO A CONTRACT AND WILL EXPIRE MAY 25, 2009...AND THEN IT WILL END MY FAMILIES 89 YRS WITH THEM AND MY 31 YRS IN THE BATTERY BUSINESS.

I HAVE DECIDED TO GO TO SCHOOL AND OBTAIN A REAL ESTATE LICENSE AND EVENTUALLY GET INTO COMMERICAL REAL ESTATE.....

THE BATTERY BUSINESS HAS BEEN GREAT TO FOUR GENERATIONS OF WELLINGTONS AND A HARDY THANK YOU TO EVEREADY, UNION CARBIDE, RALSTON PURINA, AND ENERGIZER HOLDINGS FOR ALL YOUR GREAT SUPPORT OVER THE LAST 85 YRS

    THANKS ALL FOR READING THIS..

    BRUCE / ANDREA

    Congratulations.

89 years is a long time. You must have a tremendous network in the industry. I am sure you will be able to carry over this into your real estate ventures.

Good to hear Bruce. Perhaps in a few years, you should get an apprentice to learn the ropes and carry on the business.

I guess Anthony isn't interested in the battery business?

Maybe Carbon will tire of Hotlanta, move back to the Northeast, and buy the business from you!

I have this visual of Bruce in the classroom, pockets stuffed with batteries for his cell phone, his PDA, his MP3 player, his GPS, and his pen with built in flashlight.

Bruce, what happens to Wellington Battery after '09? Should I stock up AA's? :D

    Hey Bruce

    My .02 cents!!
Stay in the battery business and get into the Real Estate business slowly. I am in the Commercial Real Industry which is very good when you find your niche and settle in but it is very difficult in the first few years.

Feel free to call me with any questions.

Why leave a sure thing for the unknown? At least keep your biz and hire someone to do your work while you sew your oats. Although I am sure you are a smart guy, starting a new career in your 40's(i am assuming) in commercial real-estate from square one isn't exactly a sure thing. Most people would kill to have a legacy to leave on so I suggest not to let it go. Just my opinion.

Sounds like a plan Bruce. As long as those batteries are making you money.
Or as suggested before. "The Eveready Apprentice" could be your own reality show. "The Bruce"....has a nice ring to it.

    Congrat!

I admire your willingness to try out totally different business for your venture. Hope you'll enjoy studying! If you become successful then, you can buy USED ENZO in 2010! Even at our age, thinking of the future is fun. (even though there's some fear & worry factor, too)

Bruce, congrats on the new direction. I have a very good friend in Dallas who's in commercial real estate with The Staubach Company. He paid his dues 15 years ago but has done incredibly well the last 10 years (incredibly well!!!!). Good luck!
