No, for guessing 3 million unique visits, that's just a t-shirt though, that still won't get you a higher attachment limit. :) Unless you sold it of course, but I can tell you it's not worth as much as the unreleased RoTB shirt I have. :D

After paying the bills of the site I might get me a few quarters an hour for labor. Can I report myself to the government for not making minimum wage? Heck, after the house, utilities, and retirement fund... what's that little dash sign to the left of the bottom line number? Hmm, doesn't look good. :) I'll keep my day job

I wasn't asking for a higher limit! I'm high enough, thanks.

Someone asked about deleting previously posted pics to maintain below the limit but I don't think that's a good idea. Can't edit posts once the time runs out, anyway.

PM me the enrollment rates again. I'll keep crushing these beer cans.
The Corona bottles Valeria drinks hurt my feet though.

You have a TRoTB shirt????? I did not get one of those. We have guidelines at the office anyway. Minimum standards, you'd say.

No one should be able to delete any old images. Can someone that is Not Subscribed and over the limit test for me whether you can delete images or not? If you could, the option would be under User Options - User Control Panel somewhere I think.

    Thanks,
    rob

    Exactly

Should I or others get paid to offer tips and help or does this site benefit and profit from the collective of all.

Some of the technichal articles with photos here took hours for the authors to post, and I am sure they are highly paid people and they did it for free to help others.

What's up Jeff? Why the hate? The only motivation I can see for comments like yours is jealousy. Trust me, it's nothing to be jealous of. This community has taken over my life to my liking or not. It's in an evil position now of not making enough money to make even a partial living, but requiring the commitment a full time job does. For the time being I don't see the requirements of a full time day job plus FC being that bad. Heck, I wanted to be a 80 hour a week Investment Banker before I discovered how interesting I.T. was.

Tell me more Jeff, how many owners do you think we have? What do you think our Consultants program is all about? What do you think our Writing program is all about? Me thinks you haven't thought everything through.

    Rob,

I am not saying you should not be compensated, you should be, but charging members to post pics and other limitations is the wrong way to go IMO, look at many of the tech guys here that know their stuff and many long time contributors they are not subscribed, so that means they are limited in how they can offer their expertise.

BTW Whats to be jealous of ? Personally I wouldn't want this site, too much time, effort, and headaches for the return but we are all grateful you want it.

This is your baby and I think you have done a great job building this site to where it is today but I think you are shooting yourself in the foot for a few bucks by charging contributors.

You have some of the biggest and most knowledgeable Ferrari enthusiests in the world here surely that is very valuable to merchants in the auto field, not to mention the demographic of the Ferrari owners here have a much higher than avg income which is surely valuable to many sellers of consumer goods, expand your revenue that direction.

No hard feelings anyway I was in a bit of a pissy mood when I posted earlier.

I'm not a Ferrari caretaker, but I still paid my dues because clearly there's value in Ferrarichat. Tech/Pros have been encouraged to notify Rob on numerous occasions so he can help them continue to help F-Chatters by helping themselves to the cornucopia of shared knowledge. Indeed, there is more than one way to make a contribution to Ferrarichat.

The "free web" only goes so far and always at someone else's expense. Free websites tend to collapse under the weight of their "free" success. One characteristic of adulthood, in my view, is when one stops living off of someone else's dime. As such, "free" is also the defining word in freeloader. Please do not rail against the preceding sentence - I mention it in the context of free uploading of images, not as if anyone is a sponge which absorbs but is left to dry - never to be put to good use. Rather, we should be like a real sponge - absorbing (e.g. water, which takes the path of least resistance), yet give give all a sponge can when given a squeeze.

It's all a very simple question of economics and value.

If it's important to access a private forum, post pictures on someone's internet Chat board service and is worth $ to you, then you happily pay. If not, then you happily don't. Consumers can always access somewhere else.
This is not a public good. This is Rob's FerrariChat; he has been a gracious host, has costs (financial and opportunity) and must do as he sees best.

This board is just as much the property of the members. If you don't like the rules vote with your feet and post elsewhere. If enough people do so, Rob would soon get the message. (I am not advocating this). I don't see the subscription thing as an issue, but I won't be paying so other members can benefit from my experiences. I am happy to contribute and share, but the day it costs me a dime to do so, I'll be out of here.

I can see where Rob is coming from, in that it costs money to run a site such as this, and he should not bear the cost of 8000+ people posting here. I also feel that there are several users that contribute huge amounts and aren't paid up, and it would be a shame to lose their input. I think that the point that you pay for other services is valid, however I feel that every dollar I save by continuing to "freeload" is another one put to my first Ferrari :). It is Rob's decision, and I can see where he is coming from, I just hope that I can still contribute here in the future.

We're all experts at some things, that's what makes a diverse community like this great. I'm the first to admit the greatest value are the users and nothing I do. I've implemented programs not to loose the "best of the best". You're all the best, but there are just a few users that have the combination of being active, helpful, and knowledgeable above and beyond.

Here are a few of the programs for users that don't have to pay a subscription...

Moderators (18 currently) - These users have been involved with the community awhile and have shown activity and a level head.

Consultants (27 currently) - Most of these users have been active and unselfishly helped others in their expertise. This is the best place for the "best of the best" to be.

Honorary (3 currently) - These are special members that have a distinguished history with Ferrari. They contribute to our overall community karma and reputation.

Writing Program - Please read the newsletter for information on this. This is a great way to get subscription credits for free and many of the future consultants will be selected from those contributing to this program.

Everyone, I'm not saying everything is perfect. I will say I don't personally know what is perfect. That's why I've always listened to the users closely and worked ideas around before ever implementing them. We'll never please everyone 100%, but somewhere in this community I think there's something for everyone.

The Non Subscribed users really have nothing to fret about right now. You still have viewing and posting privileges. 5 mb is a huge amount of space for uploading images. If you're taking up that much space and not willing to subscribe or take part in the other programs, then I won't cry to hard for you.

    Thanks,
    rob

    It says to me:
    Picture 910-1.JPG:
Exceeds your quota by 25.58 MB

So now I have to upload my pics somewhere else ..(like imagestation) for you guys to see my pics.
no way I'm not doing that.

It's been in the works for awhile, converting this one to a pay for post, but not to just view.

you can still look for free
