I'm very much aware of what it takes and the significance of closing any deal... be it personal or in business. I try to do both in the most ethical manner possible.

If its any consolation I had a similar situation with a boat. Despite negotiating a deal and sending a deposit check, this scum sucking broker (also in San Diego!) sold the boat to some Joe off the street for a few $K more than they had already accepted from yours truly - can you say mad as hell :(

Now the story takes a strange turn when I get a call a week later saying the boat is back on the market (I later found out its because they couldn't get the buyer financed) and how sorry they where for the misunderstanding! Anyway, I told him to go F**K himself and never call me again, which was a hard call but worked out great as I finally ended up with a much nicer boat at a better price :)

I guess the moral of the story is karma will catch up with them and you will find an even better deal - hang in there and keep the faith!

don't feel bad, car was overpriced anyway....

You could get the same car in the high 80's or low 90's....

    keep looking and good luck...

if it was meant to be, the car would be in your garage as we speak....

    Rob,

Sorry to hear about your experience....

But, I'm not sure I understand your story correctly.

"They came back with $103k. I call up and immediately accept. After accepting the price, the salesman tells me that there is another buyer right in front of him and that he would call me back in an hour."

You don't make it clear if it is you accepting the price or the salesman accepting your price. If they called you with an offer to sell at $103K and someone had come into the dealership before or during your call back to accept, I think it is reasonable to sell the car to someone he is negotiating with in the dealership. After all, he doesn't know if you will agree to the higher price. Further, I think it is expected that a salesman enter into negotiations with anyone interested in purchasing. If it was the salesman who ACCEPTED (can't find bold - so caps instead) your offer first, then I think it was unethical to accept another offer.

Anyway, right or wrong, negotiations can take a turn for the worst and you have to accept losing what you might think is a great deal. I agree with other posters- In my experience, in commodity items, another deal will come along and will probably be better. Also, if the salesman did agree and accept your offer, I would take it higher up the food chain (The owner).

    Just my opinion....

    - I wish you luck (and a Ferrari)

Rob,Very sorry to hear about your recent experience with the 355 Pozzi 355. I too had a deal go bad AFTER I paid a deposit on a 5800 mile 355F1 Tubi car in Encino Ca.Owner changed his mind-- At least I got my full deposit back. It worked out in the end as I got a great car and a great deal on a 99 US 360 F1 silver coupe which was delivered last week ( check the N. Carolina - S. Carolina section for my post & photos ) I tried to PM you but your box was full. I have good and bad facts on several of the 355 Blue 98-99 Spyders currently on the market and will be glad to share all that I know. Buddy

I am sorry to hear about your experience Rob.

You have to remember that a long distance deal can be complicated, and can go south very quickly. The dealer knows this, therefore the gentleman in the showroom is perceived as a stronger buyer.

    F328 BobD,

I remember seeing your 328 advertised, it was VERY nice.
If your buyer was willing to buy a plane ticket I would think he would be willing to put a deposit on the car also.

Just to clarify...The salesman left me a msg that the car was mine for $103k.
I call back in three hours. He takes my call. I tell him he has a deal. He then says, within the same conversation.Call me back in an hour. The ask was $107k. He used my negotiated price with the consignment seller to move the car to someone else. He should have waited until our negotiations were completed one way or another.

    Rob,

I guess while he was waiting for your return call another buyer walked in or maybe he was negotiating with him also.
In any case I do agree with you when he left the message the car was yours
he should have stood by it and as soon as you returned the call had you put a deposit on the car to seal the deal.

    Chuck
