I'm thinking about making a charitable contribution...

Apparently you need to be sponsored by a current member of the foundation. Are any of you members of the 11-99 foundation, and would you be willing to sponsor me (I'm a decent enough guy)? I believe all I need is your name and address.

    thanks,

I am a member and did not need a sponsor when I joined last year.

PM me if you need help.

    thanks,

I just emailed them for an application. On their website it does state that you will need the name and phone number of a current member.

I sent in my application two weeks ago. Got reffed by Tony, who played a role in founding it.

I am still waiting for my app to come via postal mail.
I wonder now with Spike Helmick retiring, whether the CHP 11-99 Foundation will continue, under new CHP leadership, whomever that will be...

I would be very surprised if the foundation is altered. They have been receiving considerable donations, especially as of late.

My error, it is $1800. I hadn't read thru the app form yet, and I remembered $1400 from the last time I checked the website.

Has anyone gotten out of a ticket because of that license plate holder?

Yup, plenty of times. It works as long as you were doing less than 120...

"and you were just looking for your friend Rich in Monterey!! :) "

I have heard many stories of people getting out of tickets due to 11-99, but in the same breath, city cops do not care about it, either do county Sheriffs.

Let me give you a first hand story. On Friday the 13th going to CI in the morning I was stopped at the interchange of 280-101s, I was driving insanely but slowed down considerably when I saw him at the turn off. Skipping through the intros...the officer was very nice and got all my info and asked me if I was a CHP 11/99 member and I said yes and if he could give me any consideration I promise not to speed the rest of the way. He said CHP1199 does not give me the right to speed on his freeways. I agreed and moments later he gave me the stuff and sent me off w/o a citation.

On the way back on 17n close to Los Gatos when I saw an opening at the straight I opened it up to pass some slow traffic and there I was being pointed by a motorcycle CHP under the bridge in the shade where he could not be seen. He caught me doing 87/50... He did not say anything more than what my speed was and asked for my driver’s license. Usually they ask for insurance and registration so I was sure he was not writing me up. Wrong...He did give me ticket for cvc22350 exceeding the posted speed limit. I did a bit of a research and looks like cvc22350 can be argued to my benefit since there is no mention of the posted speed limit. I am going to give it a try.

These were my first interaction with CHP since I bacem a member in February.
