A friend of mine brought his F-40 on a drive. We opened it up to admire the motor and a couple of the guys we were with asked how it drove. He replied by saying “It’s a blast, if you want go ahead and take it for a spin”. Not everyone present heard what he said, but those that did fell silent, looked at each other, paused, then changed the subject. We went on to have a great drive but no one dared take him up on the offer.

Apologies to all whom I may have offended, I wasn't aware of the ban and did not intend to refer to them in any disrespectful way. I think Porsches are some of the finest pieces of rolling engineering.

I just have no interest in owning one.

Most of my friends have asked to drive it I said no since it isn’t worth the headache if something happens..for example, what if they scrape the front bumper on a driveway and a little paint gets scratched? Are you really going to ask you friend to write a check for $1K repaint? I wouldn’t, so I won’t let them drive it. There are only 2 friends that I trust with my car.

I just got my first F car and just giving my friends rides has inspired them to work harder and make more money...it definitely motivates people to make more money.

I've asked many other F-owners to let me drive their cars, and with one or two exceptions, they have all let me. I myself have owned up to four at once, so they knew that I knew what I was doing (sort of). Consequently, I've managed to garner "seat time" in almost every mid-engine Ferrari made, except for the Enzo. Cars I've driven just for the asking include: 512, 512BBI, TR, 512TR, 308, 328, 348, 348 challenge (full track prep), 355, 355 challenge (full track prep), 360, F40, F50, 288 GTO, Daytona Coupe, 246 and probably some other's I've forgotten. Also, Vipers, NSXs, S2000, 300ZX, etc, etc. I have over 400 miles of track time in 360's and I've never owned one. My motto when it comes to F-cars is, "If you don't ask, you typically won't get offered."

As for me and my cars? Well, many people have drive my 308 and 348. In fact, the 348 is on loan to someone halfway across the country right now. I think my insurance agent is convinced I'm insane. :)

I offer seat time to many. NOT to those who ask.

King Solomon had a brother who asked for one of Solomons many concubines.

As the wise man considered the request he concluded that anyone who wished to lie with someone he had laid down with, might secretly aspire to his position on the throne and was clearly indicating he may be threat to his position and life.

    So he beheaded him!

My advice: Smite any bastard who dares ask to bed your redhead!

I've never had anyone ask, and when I've offered (close friends, relatives)
    they declined.

If another owner of a Ferrari or other enviable car asked, I would trade drives if I liked/trusted them.

I think it's rude as hell to ask a complete stranger to drive their car.

Good thread question, most people look like they wish to ask, when they sit in the seat, no pens,or jeans, or muddy shoes...they are in basic terms, very plain car. Suprised that its a plain interior..why so much...if I feel like maybe i fire her up. Then the question how much for a clutch and gas...and the silence....any thoughts of even asking go away, and very gently close the door. And then finally, never seen a 12cyl car before let alone a ferrari 12. End of story.

No one I know can drive my Europa because of the pedals! You need to have small feet and narrow shoes. But I'd let anyone drive it who asked. I give a lot of rides around this one set of bends and people usually scream when I take them at 75 MPH (posted "suggested" speed is 35). It took me a year to get my courage and skill to drive it to the limit!

Just 3 people drove my Ferraris: my dad, my girlfriend (only the 355, not the 348) and a good friend, who's a Porsche owner...

My experience is like so many others in this thread - most people are afraid to drive my car, and some are even afraid to get too close.

I've asked a couple of close friends and family if they'd like to drive it and a few have taken me up on it, while others only felt comfortable with a ride.

The funny thing is, I let my brother drive it (he's a police officer), and he got pulled over in under 5 minutes! Luckily he was part of the "brotherhood", even though he is from out of state, and he and the cop that pulled us over had a good laugh and then we went our separate ways.

Kind of makes me want to take him with me everywhere!
